Hi all, thought i should start the buggy as been stood for a month, thought i would just turn it over first with a quick flip of the key to get some oil around, it didnt manage a whole turn of the engine before it burst into life! I hadnt turned on the fuel or set the auto choke 😀  so i turned it off and then i noticed that if the ignition key was in the position 3 ie ignition on, when i turned  a position anti clockwise to off it sounded like there was a bit of power going to the starter, wierd, i cannot even be sure exactly when it was doing this. Anywat i set the choke  and started it and she ran really well, so i warmed her up till choke came off  gave her a few revs , let it settle and switched off. So really happy that she started and ran so well but a bit peturbed with the strange ignition switch behavior which i had never had before, should i get a new switch in stock incase this one is on the way out. Anyone experienced this or similar before. I have a friend who was awoken at three am  by the sound of his transit mini busr turning over, jumped out of bed to confront the "thieves" to find the bus locked and empty but turning over from some short or electrical problem 🤔

switches do fail, best thing is try it a few times it may just be sticky with lack of use so a light oiling of the barrel may help.

A switch in the spares box ( new or used) gets you going without the delay of having to order one.

. Thanks snoops, think you may be right there, buggy is now stored in an air chamber and i have had a sticky hand brake  since it went in there and never had it when it was just in e damp garage. Maybe it drys stuff out too much, will try a squirt of wd 40 on the barrel.  .. and get a spare switch,oh and use it more😁👍

Hi again, tried oiling it snoopy, it seems to do it sometimes but not everytime , when switching ignition key from on to off, just a enough current to make the starter move fractionally, not actually turn over ! I wonder if it coud be a sticky solenoid on the starter motor , but just guessing really. I have bought a pare ignition switch ready incase i need to swap it out but didnt want to change it if i dont really need to as it is a pain to get to , under dash ,upside down contortions and all that 😤, am i looking towards starter motor needlessly  as it is more likely the switch or could it be either? Any suggestions appreciated , thanks all.

Easiest to put a new spare wire onto the lucas terminal on the soleno then touch the other end to the battery live terminal and see what happens this will test the starter main battery feed and earths, if it works every time you have a problem on the ignition switch circuit or if it is still no good you have a battery main feed/ earth wiring fault or a duff starter.

Hi again, I played around a bit today with this ignition switch thing, ,snoopy , I didnt get as far as trying the extra wire you suggested yet as i noticed now that when I turn the key to no 1 ( accessories) position that the alt and oil light come on as if the ignition key was in the no 3or "on" position. Whereas before , only the alt light came on in the accessory position. Off is still off and start is still start, . Weird behavior, i am guessing it is more than likely the switch now than the starter .? Any ideas 👍
