Hii all brought a fuel pump today but my push rod is 108 mm and pump is for 100mm push rod
Can I just cut mine down or should I exchange pump

Yes you can cut it down but smooth the end off nicely and radius the edges a bit like yours is now. Make sure you do cut it to 100mm, I know it looks too short when you put it back in but thats how it is supposed to be

Worth checking the push rod hits the pump lever correctly as I was given a new pump to fit for somebody and it only just touched the end of the lever and when turning by hand it locked solid with a short rod in as it ran out of stroke.

Is it best to place it on top stock and see if pump lay on with out bottom out
But on pump I have is b for 100 mm well that what it's say on Web site as the pump I had was the original vw one and now this one is a sealed unit

The one I had was fitted by the owner and when he tried to start it it bent the push rod although it was all correct. I made a new gasket to go under it whilst replacing the bakerlite guide and spotted the lever problem using the gasket on the pump base.

Buy a new rod, rod length is critical to correct fuel pressure. Too long by a fraction and fuel pressure will be too high, too short and it'll be too low.

I`m presuming pump cannot be exchanged for the correct one?   

Also, worth checking your bakelite. Pump stand is free to drop down freely into the block , check out the utube videos on this , you can sand it down if it is too tight👍

Fitted pump put rod at highest point then placed on top not much gap tighten down moved crank by hand and no tight spots
So fired up runs OK just need to know the correct way everybody runs fuel line at moment runs threw fan cowl lh side
And what 's the best wst to check fuel pressure just as a procutoin looked a car stand all good drops nice also greseed lever on pump

Brought two new rods to be on save side so new on that side
