Cheers all. I bought it as a rolling chassis from a breakers for 50.00. It had no V5 with it. It does have a chassis no, but no trace of its original plate unfortunately. I'll finish it regardless see what happens. I'll keep hammering on as you say. Thanks  ;-)up

Hi
Its time to decide what to do with my buggy build I started 9 years ago. Yes I know. Long time. Illness, kids getting married, kids buying houses, grand children and so on. And in all this time a lot has changed in terms of IVA. Its not far completed sort of.
It not registered so no V5. Its been shortened. Am I right in saying that there is no way I can this passed now being its been modified?
Whats my options? Is there any point in carrying on? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Seat examination shown in manual Section 15. 4 pages and sketch is 3 of 4.

It`s one of the areas open to interpretation upon inspection.  It is something I would talk over with your local guy. He will expect to see the seat mountings re-inforced on a standard Beetle floorpan.
"Stress Plates" are referred to by examiners... Usually placed on top of floorpan and also underneath at points the bolts will go through. No specific dimensions but 5mm thick .

Examiner uses judgement when inspecting. He needs to be sure that the mountings will be secure in a collision.

The only UK seat that comes with IVA creditation is manufactured by Cobra...... http://www.burtonpower.com/cobra-seat-roadster-7-vinyl-cobroad-tv.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=prodlistad&utm_campaign=gb_feed?WbRf=ProdListAd&gclid=CIKw0uTtyNECFRAW0wodEtMFoQ

This is not to say it`s the only seat they will accept but take a look at the picture in the link above as it shows the curvatures of the seat areas that are subject to radii checks.

Hi all. Still plodding along with mine slowly. Mine is not registered so I hope I get it on a Q plate - I noticed you said seats has to be on a standard beetle floor pan. I have mine constructed out of box section with alloy checkered plate on top. Hope this will be fine unless someone  knows different.

Thanks for your input. Yes. I think where I have the lugs welded, I can get away with either a 3 point or 4 point harness but not sure yet.

Another bit I fabricated in 2010. !

A cheers again Paul. I have them fixed inside on either side to the tunnel. Because I started this in 2010 I have to re-look at most things I've already done.

A yes I've used fine thread bolts. I've decided to fit harnesses, but still fabricate a roll hoop of some sort for safety.
I have a similar fitment supporting the back of the shell over the engine made out of 2 x 1 box, so I can attach to that.  I had already welded four strong wings further back on the same cage just in case a few years ago, so I could attach to them too if I want.

Thanks Paul. As usual very helpful and informative. I had planed on a harness anyway, and maybe either a hoop/cage, or just a couple of u hoops behind the seats. I'll sleep on it and then off to the steel shop in a couple of days.
Cheers  ;-)up

Anyone know if there is a IVA requirement in what should be used when fabricating a roll hoop in terms of tube quality etc. Does it have to be seamless tube, and what steel thickness etc, or can it be ordinary 2.5mm thick 2" O/D mild steel tube.?
