FUEL LINES AND BRAKE PIPES. Inside or outside? Cant see in the rules specify, just they they must be secure.

You can run brake lines inside our out.

There isn`t a securing figure mentioned but the concensus of kit car builders opinion is securing every 200mm.

You can, for example, run the fuel line through the tunnel. However, because this is enclosed, you would need photographs showing that you have secured them.

I have also seen an example where "through bulkhead" fittings have been used at the frame head end and rear chassis horn to give a threaded connect for the external sections of pipe work. This looks neat and does away with a fuel\brake line exiting tunnel through a rubber grommet.

If you run lines external to the tunnel, either top or bottom of chassis, the securing items need to have some form of "padding to prevent metat to metal rubbing.

There is a significant examination of the section of fuel line that runs from rear horn or wherever to the fuel pump if it runs close to any heat source.  They also do not like fuel filters whose body could fail or connections come adrift and allow fuel to spread to hot exhaust etc.

So... fix all lines every 200mm where possible. Make sure the pipes cannot rub metal to metal and use secure connections.



What you have stated is very typical of the manuals vague nature at times and the interpretation is solely that of the examiner you get at the time of the test.
