The National Kit Car Show - we just know it at Stoneleigh!
Sunday 3rd to Monday 4th May 2015
Well after last years event of 108 buggies together in one place, this is now the meet of the year! Great show to get your non-VW parts for the buggies, lots of very nice built cars too. Its on all weekend for Camping BUT traditionally the Sunday is the big get together.
Stoneleigh Park, Royal Showground, Nr Kenilworth, CV8 2LZ
Watch this space for specific buggy meet details but the general kit car show site:
http://www.nationalkitcarshow.co.uk
I have just got off the phone to the organisers and have managed to re-book the same area that we had last year on the grassy bank.
I`m expecting a good turnout here, especially as we had 108 Buggies last year - a UK record !!
;-)up
More details to follow shortly

Advance tickets are now available ;-)up
Just booked my ticket, dont know how they do it for £5, put a lot of the shows to shame.
Their website gave an error when I tried to book so gave them a ring
Have to try to sort out some routes nearer the day. Looks like Hudge and I will be driving up Saturday morning along the A14 so anyone else on that route is welcome to meet.
Dave
Just booking camping now too! bargain for £5 all weekend!
Just watched the video they have on their website - looks like its from 2012. Sadly no buggies shown but gives you a little idea of the meet.
In fact I just noticed a very close friend arriving in their car at 59 seconds in - Bet you can't spot them though - blink and you miss them! ;D ;D ;D
Hopefully make it for the Sunday line up - sounds like one not to be missed!
Bit of clarification on the ticketing
I got a letter saying my ticket was valid on "one day only" so I gave them a ring.
So long as you have the BLUE Camping ticket with a sticker with your name and address and stating number of people you are covered Saturday to Tuesday if you want. I just got the wrong letter with mine.
Might save a few phone calls
Cheers
Dave
Hopefully make it but bank holidays are hard for me to get off work. Was it on a bank holiday last year?
Yes, its on the May Bank Holiday, but the biggest day, (and the one to aim for), is always the Sunday
Me, Ollie and Dai were all going to do this for the whole weekend then we realised we are in Magaluf for Dai's Birthday.
Damn.
If you didn't go last year it is always a good show, you can pick up so many bits and pieces for your projects but without the over inflated VW price tags.
Hopefully, if I can get the dash finished, ill have the buggy out for its first proper public outing with 6 cylinder power......
I've got some work to do I think. Finish the dash, find a fuel gauge that works, find a sender, rebuild and install the AS gearbox, sort rear tyres.
Hmmmmmmmm. I R going to be busy

HI muzzy
Just a few jobs left. Trying to design a gun mount for the front passenger, 2x 50cals. Go large or go home. Don't think the rocket lancher will be ready in time.
If I'd of known I could of sold you a replica m60 for cheap. I've been selling all my airsoft kit as its unused and that was one of my guns to go. Only sold it last week

we will be going again..hopefully.
Can Baja's get in for free as a Kit Car? I've found this to be hit and miss at my local show.
That's a good question...I'd say on the gate that it is a kit car as it's got a body kit affixed to it 😊
Hit and miss as Shaggy says, but as far as I am aware, the Baja`s we had last year didn`t have any problems at all ;-)up
Its certainly a modified car, so I would have thought it should be OK ?
If the missus can get time off work we'll be there sat /sun

Apart from not seeing you for ages, it would be good to see your brilliant example of a Corvair engined buggy, plus you cant beat a few hours with the buggers to put a grin on your face. ;-)up

Just a thought . . . . . .
I wonder if the Knights would make an appearance at Stoneleigh, especially on the Saturday evening cruise ?
Sort of, "Knight out with your mates" ???
Is anyone travelling down from the northwest with a spare seat going. I'd love to come but the buggy won't be ready. It's got no electrics or engine!
Can I ride shotgun with anyone?
Thanks

Not sure I will be making it myself as I still have a fuel and brake issue and no time to look at it due to work and other commitments :( (

Hi Guys, doing a cruise on the Saturday evening from Stoneleigh across to Stratford stopping at the Pen and Parchment Pub in the centre of Stratford. I have sorted out parking with the Gaffer there. A cruise around the town then a different route back to Stoneleigh ;-)up
Brilliant Allan, cheers
Any idea of mileage?
Just had a horrible thought . . . .
I`m presuming that the gates are remaining open for us to return back inside :-\
It is about 15 miles to stratford, may nip over the pub meet.
They locked the gates around 11pm last year. The cruise will be a 30 mile round trip ;-)up
CALLING ALL NEWBIES !!
We have many Newbies on here over the last few months, and this is your official invitation to come and join us at Stoneleigh ;-)up
If you have a Buggy, then bring it along ;-)up
If you don`t have a Buggy, or Buggy is not yet on the road - It doesn`t matter - Come and join us and say Hi ;-)up
Even if you want to come over in your daily driver, we have more than enough space reserved in our camping area for you to come and join us for the weekend - no need to pre book, just ask at the gate to be directed to the Beach Buggy Camping area.
Bring enthusiasm and bring beer :D
But above all else

Admire your buoyant style - any holiday camp would be delighted to employ you!
If I just turn up in a buggy and want to park in your campsite is there a entrance for campers, or do I go for the parking entrance or the kit car entrance? I wouldn't want to antagonise the entrance stewards and would love to avoid the entrance (on Sunday) with the longest queues.
Follow the main entrance for Kit Cars / Exhibitors and Camping - avoid anything that says public or parking ;-)up
Gotta have enthusiasm to have a buggy
Hudge and I will be meeting 11 on Saturday at Tesco Bury St Edmunds then on to Stoneleigh, anyone else using the A14?
There will be a P stop at Cambridge services 12ish if anyone wants to meet there

Was thinking about 6pm, giving people time to grab something to eat at the pub in Stratford if they wanted to ;-)up
Looking very unlikely for me now I am afraid. My week has gone pear shaped and working late every evening. So chances of getting it sorted and MOTd highly unlikely. I need the weather to give it a run and test a few things and the last couple of days here have been hail and snow!! So I will probably use the weekend to get it running again .... sorry about that .... hope its a good one for all of you.
Saturday drive from the South West
If anyone driving the M5 corridor fancies joining me for a mini convoy on saturday morning, I`m planning to be near Exeter services at around 9am, and Michaels Wood Services around 11:30am - obviously though are just rough times off the top of my head and dependent on the speed of the gritters and snowploughs in front of me.
However, if anyone else is going along that way around those sorts of times, let me know and we can formalise a specific time to meet ;-)up
Dont look at the weather forecast?
Sorry... I did.... But as it stands am still going!!!! :D :D :D
To be fair it does seem to be improving as the time gets closer. So based on that and having no roof, I don't mind it raining there just would prefer it to be dry whilst on the road. So I'm at Ace Cafe London for a little do I've been invited to for mid morning Saturday and then will drive straight up to Stoneleigh via the M40 for early afternoon.
Subject to crap weather on the evening if the cruise is a no go, is there much happening there indoors on the show ground premises on the Saturday evening?
No problem if its a little poor on the Sunday as there lots to do inside then - besides looks like its only isolated showers then anyway ;-)up
And since Monday looks to be fine, I will camp on Sunday night now anyway and head home later on Monday instead. ;-)up
Remember Guy & Girls

Should be there by Sunday ;D

Well the buggy is now back together after a few long days in the garage but the rain has most definitely stopped play for Stoneleigh :( :(

My Manta Ray stopped on a roundabout on the Worcester bypass and seems seized. Awaiting AA who may confirm my fears. Despite the buggy being totally a non runner it looks great on the sun and people have stopped to ask if I'm selling it! I'll certainly need a carry home so Stoneleigh will have to be another year.
You lot are right troopers if the rain is anything like up here! Hope the manta isnt too badly siezed and on the go again soon.
Thanks. AA man just arriving and I'm sadly parked by van advertising 'Any junk goes' so I have options!!

Couldn't agree more. The roads of Yorkshire had a special was last night for the last stage of the Tour de Yorkshire, thank you God. Hope your tents dodn't get washed away.
Feel a bit relieved and a bit stupid for thinking the buggy was seized as despite checking several times I was in neutral it's likely I actually wasn't and hence I was unable to push the buggy an inch when it stopped. I have real problems trying to find reverse, first and second and the AA man suggested buying new selectors or a 'short shift' set up, which he thought were probably fairly standard fits for cars like mine. The break down appears to be a fuel pump issue - either its got an intermitent electrical fault or the pump itself is dodgy. AA guy suggested replacing the pump with one suitable for feeding the twin carbs and re-doing all the wiring joints and waggling all the fuses.
This is the pump if anyone can please advise of a suitable replacement.

My list of required new bits is growing - gear selectors, fuel pump & connectors and fuel tank (can run only half full of fuel for the moment, until I've got a replacement tank and by then there may be other reasons for taking the body off to help make it worth the effort). But I have 2 new small headlights from the USA care of Hunters steer, sitting ready for fitting in reshaped headlight units, so that's another job for the garage.
But the subsequent short heavy down pours proved the soft top works although at peak intensity the rain was able to creep around the top of the windscreen and drip where a passenger would have their knees. I much prefer buggy driving with no weather proofing yet hadn't realised how well made these covering can be.
The AA mans final helpful suggestion was that I should join an online forum !
It would have been fun to meet some of you at Stoneleigh today but consider yourselves lucky that I didn't break down in your midst and impose upon your combined mechanical knowledge and goodwill....
(http://i1378.photobucket.com/albums/ah108/hughfwghfw/IMG_0128_zpstflgofaz.jpg) (http://s1378.photobucket.com/user/hughfwghfw/media/IMG_0128_zpstflgofaz.jpg.html)
So I didn't need 'Steve's Removals'....this time.
Bad news there Hugh, but selector wise it may be simple so check the connecting block in the rear of the tunnel as they wear and get sloppy as well as coming loose if they are not lock wired. Also check the front gear shift support bush easily done with the lever removed if the shaft flops around the bush need replacing.
Fuel pump wise what carbs are they you could just run a standard mechanical pump they are less prone to failure.
Once back running the old girl was again pure fun to drive so I can live with the occasional break down. But I'd love to reduce the obvious and Snoopy your advice always sounds so straight forward....
Here are snaps of the carbs which I anticipate are standard Twin Webers.

I presume the electrical fuel pump is on this Manta ray because the original mechanical fuel pump failed i.e. I suspect there is some reason a mechanical pump isn't an easy option. Snoopy could I invite myself to your Evesham abode sometime to suit you so I can compile a hopefully short list of things I need/should buy/fix ? I'd anticipate you could spot problems/issues even without getting your hands dirty and then I can set about getting all the parts.
No problems Hugh you can come around for a check over and tweeks, hindsight is great but you could have Got off the M5 at J9 and gone up the A46 in convoy with Chimp n myself then you would not have been alone.
Your carbs will work with a mechanical pump fitted with a pressure regulator or get another low pressure electrical one my Facet gold lasted 5 years luckily I had just brought a breaker beetle that came with a new in box one I fitted so hopefully have another 4 years to go.
I didn't get as far as the M5 - would love have had company. I was on the Worcester bypass that swings south of the city and at the roundabout immediately before (west of) the river crossing where the A449 comes up from Malvern. Despite frustration at missing meeting many of you I actually thoroughly enjoyed the 50 miles round trip with an enforced break for a chat with the AA !
After Tuesday I'm pretty flexible on timings but imagine the best time for you is early evening during the week or afternoon on the weekend ? If you give me your post code or address I'll either come down into Evesham from the north or along the bottom via Pershore.
You have a pm
Great afternoon at Stoneleigh today although nowhere new enough time to get round and see everything. It was good to meet people for the first time and finally put some faces to names and see the buggies. Well worth braving the weather
Shame about breaking down Hugh hope you get sorted soon
Thanks for the supportive comment. I'd have liked to put a few faces to names but that 'fun' will have to wait.
Plenty of good has come from it though as I am now destined for a masterclass (reality lecture ?!) from Snoopy.

It was great to see some new faces and buggies and to catch up with others after our winter break luckily the weather held.

Thanks. AA man just arriving and I'm sadly parked by van advertising 'Any junk goes' so I have options!!
Hi Hugh, you have a type 4 engine there, the original mechanical fuel pump fouls on the beetle gearbox mounting cradle. So an electric fuel pump has to be fitted instead and a blanking plate fitted to the mounting hole. Facet do a fuel pump that works below 4PSI, this is what you need! some people like to run a pressure regulator as well but I have found no need when using the low PSI output pumps.
Rob
I had an electric fuel pump off a Mk1 mini on mine when I ran an 1800 years ago. If you can find one they work very well
Great day at Stoneliegh today, thanks for the time you guys spent chatting to me today, nice to put faces to names, Shaggy, Dave, and Chad. Really enjoyed looking at all your buggys, and a big THANKYOU to Shaggy for letting my son Jorge climb all over, sit in, and have his photo taken in your buggy. Cheers Chad for the spin around the show ground, really brought back the memory's of my old buggy. ;-)up My wife really liked the 'purple' one!
Rob - Extremely clear and helpful. Thought there must be a reason this buggy had a seperate electric pump.
I can see Facet pumps on ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Facet-Fuel-Pump-Low-Pressure-Kit-1-5-To-4-Psi-/271856227369?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f4be4d429
which say they run 1.5 to 4psi, so will order one.
Thanks also to Shaggy - think I'll go for a new 'general' pump rather than risk being caught at a buggy meeting inspection with a Mini part fitted !.

The best fuel pump out an SU with points not a solid circuit, when they start playing up you get out and give it a knock so it works again but you can continue your journey knowing that you need to clean and reset the contacts in the near future. Not get recovered as there is nothing you can do with solid state ones.
It was good to meet up with some old buggy friends today and meet some new faces and buggy's. Sorry to hear Hugh, that your buggy didn't make the trip though. I guess I left ten minutes to late and got stuck in a heavy rain shower all the way home :'( :'( Anyway the forecast looks ok for tomorrow, so I'll take the other buggy to the show tomorrow ;-)up
Rob
Your most welcome Andy, it was lovely to meet you and your family and I hope it's had an inspiring effect on you see you all again at some point 😀

Yes those Mini pumps were a bit big and ugly! so they hid them away. I remember clouting them when they got dodgy ;D

Great day at Stoneleigh today, met loads of Buggy people, some young, some old, some older and better still some new ! Thought I'd post a few pics.....shout if it's your Buggy....

Yea, that was the hulk buggy. His fuel tank breather pipe decided to act as a siphon
Well after 6 and 1/2 hours I'm home (could have done it in 6 but had to make an emergency repair at my dad's - stupid pulley cover sheared yet another bracket). Face feels all wind burnt and stuff
Thanks to all for a brilliant weekend - sorry Jazzy for the challenge Jazzy thread. Next time you bring the wine, I'll bring the "lite" cheese.... ;D
For those who decided not to go because of the bad weather you missed a great weekend.
I must have covered about 650 miles this weekend - it was great...
Paul
Had an eventful ride home
6 miles past Kettering huge cloud of smoke as one of my professionally crimped oil hoses blew off dousing the exhaust, engine and back off buggy.
Switched off and got on the grass verge and ended up travelling home on a truck
Will get it fixed this week.
Good that it happened before IBW but a massive clean up to do
Bonus was where I broke down there was a colony of red kites putting on an aerobatic display for me, at one point 5 of them were showing off just for me.
Great weekend anyway, thanks Allen for the cruise, thanks Jazzy for the hospitality tent and thanks Micky for doing the washing up although you did miss mine.
Brilliant weekend had by us, and thanks to everyone that came along to make it so much fun. Yes, there was overnight rain that would have even made Noah shiver, but we managed sunburn from Sundays sun, so all was good. Trip home was eventful with fog so thick around Exeter we could only just see the bonnet of the car. Great to see some old faces, absolutely fantastic to make some new friends.
Big thanks to Mark and his awesome Curry, and big apologies from Liz to MickyB from spraying it all around his kitchen ;D
362 days to go until we do it again :D
Forgot the thanks to the good samaritans who pulled over to check I was OK while waiting for recovery on the A14, you know who you atre, cheers ;-)(-;
Anyone found any photos/videos from the good people of Stratford yet?
Bugger Dave! that makes my dodgy brake light switch look very minor indeed! Hopefully an easy fix back at home though.
Many thanks to all for the great weekend! Brilliant (and eventful) cruise on Saturday - thanks Allan and Vanessa. even sorting out the special parking at the pub! It was great waking up Stratford. Ok weather was a little questionable in the evening but during the day soon made up for it.
Great to see everyone :) :) :)

Absolutely, never seen one before. Got to look on the bright side when things go wrong, at least it happened after the show and well before IBW
Got another pipe made up so I could blank the holes of and clean the engine, oil had even managed to spray onto the rollcage, it was everywhere. At least it was fairly new oil so not all black and gucky. All clean now and trying to get someone I know to call round and make the pipes properly for me
QuoteAll clean now and trying to get someone I know to call round and make the pipes properly for me
Good idea, get it done properly and things wont go wrong again :) ;-)up
Kites are utterly lovely, in recent years, due to management and relocation, they have spread all over, easy to spot when in flight
too due to the fork shape long outer tail feathers :)
Thanks everyone for a great weekend at Stoneleigh, here are some pictures from the cruise around Stratford, weather held off so nobody got wet ;-)up

10 min video shot on my new camera. The quality isn't very good I'm afraid I just wanted to test the editing software and uploading to uTube.
The next time it should be a lot better. I now know some of the things I did wrong so I have changed some settings and will not keep putting my finger in front of the lens ;D
