I thought I might post this up as its quite important to have if you are running a standard fuel tank in the front.

I made up two supports that take the load at the front and attach to each of the VW mounting points situated on the top of each vertical front beam mounting bar.

I recently noticed that due to my Limebug beam being slightly taller in this area my supports had fractured as they were being compressed and the bends cracked, leaving me with noticeable strange and new noises when driving.

The front does not move/bounce much but on bad roads, potholes, speed bumps the shocks going through
the front end are quite severe. Sooo, after machining up two more supports and bolting them in, the difference
in the rigidity of the front tank area of the tub is incredibly apparent. Its rock solid and the only
thing that moves is the suspension.

In fact it is soo noticeable that I thought I would post about it and if anyone isn't running a pair of
these supports you may be amazed at how much difference they make and are well worth the
time doing them

I ended up running a pair of these but bought a pair of the stainless steel ones Flatlands do as a quick and easy fix. They do a good job. Never run them without so can't quote on differences with/without.

It's amazing how much a full tank weighs. Discovered that when I filled mine with water to align the type 3 fuel gauge with a type one sender.

Hope you are well anyways Peter.

Yes Ben, I am fine Thank you  :)

I never really knew about it until the originals I made years ago failed, the front
area if its unsupported literally  bounces and the first time I realised properly, was when I heard one of
my headlamps starting to rattle ;D

My bug is still going, daily, and I have made a couple of improvements inside the back seat area.

A full fuel tabk weighs in at around 80-90lbs or 40kgs for the modern mmbers which is a lot of weight on grp.
