Just been cleaning up my 1600 heads and notice that one is different, I know they are both 1600 heads, the casting is slightly different on the one badged Volkswagen Audi Group.
Reckon it will cause any issues, can't remember it causing problems when in my Type 3, but when it was in my type 3 it was merely slapped together to get the car running again.

As long as the valve sizes, plug size, combustion chamber volumes etc. are the same than it should be fine.

Check volume with a disc of perspex, a syringe and some parrafin...

Well it doesn't matter, I spent ages cleaning the head up and making it look pretty, soaked it again in degreaser last night and I was mostly pleased with m efforts, untill I put the one piston on my block and cleaned some of the crud off the top, what is this hard bit welded onto the top of the piston.....odd........ back to head is that a crack?

Yep, the lovely looking VAG head has blown the length of the spark plug thread clean out and cracked all the way down to the valve seat and outside the top casting.....she be dead, really annoying I have other 1600 heads, but I have spent hours cleaning that head.......hours, with tooth brush, you can almost eat your dinner off it.

bummer with the crack, but we live and learn every day so next time clean known fault areas afer checking the plug threads first as it will save wasted effort.
unfortunately a very common problem with twin port heads.

I have never done that to an engine before, I have melted a piston, burnt the valves out even snapped a rocker arm, but not that...

least I have an abundance of 1600 heads, oddly the other VAG 1600 head I found also seems to made of cheese, so that's two heads for the bin.
