Hunter excellent valid concerns which makes me think Dave could create a special version of the spreadsheet calculator which was doctored by it actually diving the calculated time and costs by a factor of ten, say, before displaying the artificially low result. Then leave this for third parties to find and be impressed by....

Dave and the answers to your possible new fule efficiency were ?

dave didn't used to work in the Volkswagen emissions and fuel economy department did he ? 

 did a  590   mile round trip   last week  to pick up    some new front wheels for the buggy   in my daily driver    decided to work out its fuel consumption   as the best i have ever managed    last year to tatton park we managed 73mpg   to my surprise    84mpg     anyone fitted   a diesel in a buggy  just joking     as  i recon  my buggy is only   averaging   25mpg   

A buggy has worse aerodynamics than a brick you better buy a Nova kit it in is sleeker

Did make me wonder whether you could do another version where you entered 'time spent on the buggy getting/keeping it going', 'money expended on parts/shiney bits and fuel' and 'miles travelled' and the calculator gave you a more frightening figure of how much time and money per mile you were really using !

I think my type 4 on twin dells is doing 20mpg tops but who cares 

our Italy trip came out at 33mpg 1641cc twin 34 ICT cabs Steves was about the same 1600 with ICT carbs.

Many decades ago Volkswagen produced 2 diesel Type 1 engines.   There is very little history available on these two engines, One went up in flames and was scrapped. The fate of the second engine is not known. To the best of my knowledge no further units were produced.

We get 7mpg average, and that's still better than it did with the rotary engine
