Also check the heads for cracks between the valves and to the plug hole, a common failure on twin port motors

Errrrrmmmm.........
Would end float be different with engine and gearbox connected together than if the engine were sitting on a bench somewhere out of the vehicle?   :-\

End float is the same either way but checking in car by depressing the clutch pushes the crank fully to the rear so when you get out and then push the crank pulley forwards you will feel it if it moves on the bench you will need to use a lever betwen the pulley / flywheel and case.

Oh dear......

The cloud reappears...  :'(

On the bench I have problems then.. Measuring between case and pulley with Verniers and pushing / pulling I reckon I have around 1.6 to 1.8 mm of linear movement. And it doesn't need a lever to move it.. Easy just by hand.....
It I certainly seeable as well as feelable...

What now???  :-\

That is not good to hear! Sorry mate but that engine will want a full recon. It will want line boring, which usually costs £80-100 if you can find someone to do it, a crank regrind £100, new big end and mains £60, gaskets, seals and that is before you check B+P's, camshaft etc. You might be best to look at getting another engine, perhaps a 1600 rather than spending your money on reconditioning your 1300SP  :'(

WHS ^^

Not really worth spending out getting it fixed when there are still some good deals to be had on a 1600 or even 1300 twin port engine.

For what its worth though, I sold my clapped out 1300 block on ebay as a non runner needing reconditioning, and still got £250 for it, which was a good chunk towards my new lump.

I'm trying to keep it 65/66 if possible.

Any idea what you'd want for it? Message me. I'm based in Kent where are you?
