They mark their spot when parked as Hudge says. All you have is a oil throw dished washer and the scroll on the pulley there is no actual seal just a small gap.

you say its leaking out the crankcase pulley ? .   There should be a throw washer behind the front pulley to stop oil from leaking out the front pulley.
take the pulley out and see if its there.

Yes Grissley, thenthrow washer is there. Checked and remade my remote filter hoses, this seems to have cured my issue at the moment. Can't be sure by the effect of an oil leak near the crankpulley may have masked the source of the leak. Spent weeks on this, nver been certain exactly where my leak was from!
Thanks for your suggestion.

What angle is your filter at?
If it is vertical so there is no chance of air in there then my theory  is pants, but if it is sitting at an angle there could be an air bubble in it, this would compress when there is oil pressure and when you switch off then it would continue to push oil forwards or back until the pressure is released putting slight pressure on the case with the thrower thread not spinning.
Might be a daft idea but that is the best I have for why playing with the oil lines could make any difference

VW put them on sideways on the last Mexi bugs.

How about all the air in the crankcase.......?
