After finally getting a break in the weather in Manchester I manged to get out for a short spin (it seems like its rained for 40 days and 40 nights .... plus Noah floated past this week and gave me a nod.... didnt take me as I only have one buggy).

The Drivers side carb occasionally makes a really odd sound mostly when I gave my foot off the gas.   So I had a bit of a play and I notice when I adjusted one of the mixture screws .... no change in engine speed.   Light rain then stopped play so went for a read of my Dell book.   I think they refer to this in the book as a "snap" from the carb (though it sounds a bit more like a sneeze to me).

I think I have got this right and just wanted to check.   Does this point at that barrel having a blocked idle jet again?   Want to have a play tonight and its easy enough to get out as I now have the long idle jet holders.

If there is no change in engine speed when you adjust one of the mixture screws, it is certainly a blockage in that idle circuit. However it is not always in the idle jet itself. I have cleaned these myself and all appears good for a short trip and then the problem comes back again lol. If cleaning the idle jet works fine all well and good, if not you can try blowing down the jet hole with a compressor or perhaps a syringe!

I have had this in the past. I have never been so lucky for the jet to be blocked and have always had to take the carb off.

I have had to remove all jets, choke covers, idle pumps and the float section of the carb. A can of carb cleaner and as Farmer Rob says had to use a compressor to make sure carb cleaner came out of all the tinny holes in the carb.

Not had to do this since using a filter kink regulator tho so hopefully that was money well spent.

If you can't fix it with a hammer it's not broken!!!

I repeatedly had this too, the cause was a rubber fuel pipe crumbling internally.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

Interesting .... I have all new pipes(all ethanol rated and good quality), Filter King, new electric fuel pump.......

So I am thinking ......

Blow the idle jet and test
Check filters just in case crap from the tank.. if there is I have a different challenge
Carbs are relatively new but had been standing unused a couple of years (I did clean and put new gaskets etc) so may be some old crap has been in there an got dislodged and could have suffered Stale fuel (there is so much crap out there now) so last thing carbs off...... may have to do it at the weekend rather than tonight as I am knackered and the pub is calling :)

Thanks all

My tank sprung a leak so got Mike to modify one for me. My carbs played up badly until I totally stripped them down after fitting the new tank. That was with a tank filter, a line filter, filter in the electric pump and filters in the carbs. The best bit was, I never found the muck that kept causing the problem but after I totally stripped them all was good. so you might be lucky and just have a bit of muck in the jet or you might have to strip the whole carb. Good luck

bit of an update.....yesterday I took the offending jet out....so easy with the extended holders..  Gave it a blast through with WD 40 and the straw ...that way I could see if liquid comes out. Slight delay followed by a constant stream. So guess it had a blockage.    Did the other one as well but no issues with it.

checked the filter and all good and clean

fired up and worked fine.  Trick over still not quite right as I went for a good long drive and after it really warmed up it was  far too slow.  So still a tweak or two needed.

I guess if it happens again the carb will have to come off for a good flush through and clean.

fingers crossed it is ok now

You will probably end up carb off and stripped then blow air in through the mixture screw port so it blows any crap back to the float chamber.  this needs the idle jet out and  a finger to blank that port off and keep the air flow in.
