As I am going through my front disc and dual master cylinder conversion I am taking time to get everything right .....I noticed both my front brake pipes have a few minor marks on them but more importantly are a bit chewed up ie the nuts on the end.

So think I will replace them and started to look at options.   What would you recommend?

1. Buy some ready made up ones (I want copper ideally)
2. Buy a kit and make them myself?

Looking at the kits they seem to vary from dirt cheap to mega expensive so I am guessing a big quality variation.   So again any advice welcome.

IMHO  you should do it right first time, obviously you have the old ones to use as a template if you go the DIY route, but then how often, if the pipes are maintained do you really have to change them???, buy the best you can afford, from a reliable brake expert, don't go the devilbay route, won't pay in the long run. Maybe stainless braided on the flexibles ?? The choice is yours, but don't forget , it's the only thing that can stop those four bits of rubber in each corner, however good the tread is on them . ( I think I'm starting to sound old now)

Copper's crap for brake pipes, it can work harden and go brittle if subjected to any vibrations and can be a bugger to flare correctly. I'd stick to Kunifer (cupro nickle alloy) if I were you.

Just done some research on the Pistonheads site, and they agree with Manxdavid, kunifer is the way forward, most of the main dealers only use this material.

I don't know what your timescale is ony but I'll gladly make you a couple. I just moved house and know where my flaring tool and roll of pipe is but I only have a couple of tube nuts. I can pick some up but am out in the sticks here so it may take a couple of days. PM me with the lengths and styles of end if I can help.

Things may have changed since I did mine, better stuff out there now, but I used new VW brake pipes of the time,
the shortened one I took to my local tyre/brake dealer and he flared it for free...

and as regards to being right cos Pistonheads agree, is because they usually talk about performance cars rather than a relic from the past with usually drum brakes and more smiles per miles that an ST, good enuf for a HiPo , good enuf for a Beetle. That was my point

thanks everyone.... I do want to keep the quality high as stopping is rather fundamental.  David you kindly made me one in the past and it was far better quality than the standard copper. So thank you so much for the offer...while I have been out today I gave been offered a set so for now I will go with these as I want to try and get back on the road next week.... But really appreciate the offer.
