Morning all

Got my buggy down to floor pan and ready to have a primer put on and I have some stuff that contain's Zinc Phosphate to help stop the rust. This can be brushed on but wanted to try my hand at spraying so got myself a spray gun and going to give this ago at the weekend. After all how hard can it be  ;)    8)

Question I have is can you also spray with Hammerite and if so what ratio to thin it down with thinners?

I have the paint already so would be a shame not to use it one way or another and have been using a brush but as I have a gun why not give it a go.

Pretty sure one of the tins I have has instructions for spraying, have you read the tins?

I know they do the smooth as an aerosol so that is obviously sprayable, the ripple and metal flake dont see why not so long as you keep it well  mixed.

I reckon here Google is your friend

Just asked my local bodyshop, and he reckons that it can knacker your equipment because of the amount of silicon residue left behind which can never be cleaned off properly

I had a t2 van sprayed with hammerite and not the smooth back in 81 and after 4 years outside it went a bit dusty powdery on top so guess it should have been laqured

I used Hammerite Smooth Gloss Black and to get best results I dust/ Lightly coated it x 4 every 15 mins then let dry for 2 days quick colour sand nothing too time consuming and then did 2 further dust/light coats. Looks great!! 1 tip warm the can before spraying in a pot or pan of hot water. ;-)up

I did the spine first then did one floor pan side  then the other side then the frame head then the frame horns and then flipped it over and did the same on the underneath --- sorted!!
targa's are for tiddlers

Brilliant finish there mate....top tip to warming up the paint in the pot before and during spraying....I remember my cousin spraying his cortina with tecaloid and heating up the paint in boiling water. Went on great and had a deep shine to it.
I'm in my buggy,
It's raining,
I really don't care.

ok then if your gonna use smoothrite you can thin it and build it on peacefully three good coats should do it if you are gonna warm it dependant on your gun you should be able to get it on in one shot one good coat however beware of runs years ago before modern paints we used to warm all our synthetic based paints to paint artic trailers one good coat after priming they came out fine you should be fine on a small area as your pan .when you have finished strip and clean your gun properly as paints such as hammerite are prone to not like being mixed with other types of paint hope this helps......
