Hi Chris, I am wondering if you have got too much boost!. Did you get your gauge working to see how boost you have got?. Was this buggy set up for the road or the strip?. I do wonder if you can adjust the boost to see if it solves the problem until it can be set up properly on a rolling road.

the boost gauge as always worked rob ,the thing that's miffing me is the smoke or steam whatever it is coming from the breather ,I wouldn't have a clue how to adjust the boost either ,this smoke is comeing out on idle I aint even driving it ,to be honest I haven't drove it for a while since the last getting hot issue and then the no compression on no 4 cylinder wich as been fixed now ...but still the smoke lol.....all new barrels and pistons and valves reground and seated again have done everything ..so it looks like a case of rolling road next I think

Chris can't believe your luck so far with your engine hope you get it all sorted :(

At least if he gets yours up to 164 miles per hour you won't be able to see the smoke coming out of your breather although you may be more worried about the smoke coming out of ya pants ??? ;D ;D

Ken it starts on the button,it runs,it sounds mint, but i dont trust it now and want someone to look at it properly as if i do use it and it goeses pop gonna be far worse off ,i have overhauld everything and yes maybe the rings just need bedding in ,but dont want to run it and over heat them and make it all go pop,if you get me ,perhaps i have just had too many people play around with it and should have gone somewhere that nows .... 8)

Chris, as I said if you get the bits, we'll mount a dip stick temp sender and gauge, that'll atleast give you some peace of mind when running it.  You'll get a quick indication of over heat.  I'm over yours a week monday :)

If you're concerned about heat, see if you know anyone with one of those infra red temperature guns and just point it at different parts of the head, turbo, exhaust, etc and see what it reads.

If you are worried about oil temp, but not wanting to fit a gauge, buy a Berg dipstick, it simply wires in-line with your oil pressure sender and causes your oil pressure light to flash when the oil is too hot.

If you have smoke coming out of the breather, then it is most likely to be oil (after all there is no water in these engines  -unless you have a serious condensation issue :) ) the question is where the oil is getting hot enough to burn.

Breather lines on the cylinder heads are great for relieving case pressure without forcing oil out of the oil filler vent, but not really that necessary on a stock like engine.

If you had white smoke coming out of the exhaust, then that would be the piston rings.

If it is coming out of the breather, then my first guess would be the oil is getting too hot in the turbo. You can check this easily enough by disconnecting the turbo oil return line that goes back to the case and seeing what state the oil is that comes out of it - should be foamy, but yellow/grey depending on oil age. Just hold it over a bucket so you don't get oil everywhere, it is just a gravity drain to the case after all.

I don't get on well with Danny these days after I sold some piston rings to another racer at a meet who he did not like and was trying to buy them all up so I could not help this person out. Danny then denies the event ever happened when confronted about the incident, despite there being several witnesses.
