Thanks chaps! Was a bit unexpected, but it was available and the right colour, so I took the plunge.

Might be a bit of a hiatus until the new year, but hopefully on the road this summer. Many thanks for the offers of help and advice, it's much appreciated.

ive got a water cooled Lancia engine hanging out the back of mine.

I have had a water pumper fitted since 1986 so no worries on you being an outcast.

I'm doing a subarugears conversion atm  Santa didn't leave me any parts under tree hopefully going to be able to get it done this year

This is good to know. I was a bit worried that since Buggies have been around for a while (in a similar way Street Rods), there was a "right"way to do it, usually involving expensive, vintage and obsolete parts.

And woe betide you if you didn't do it the "right" way...

To be honest, it wouldn't put me off. But it's reassuring to know that I'm not alienating the community I'm trying to be part of.

Nah mate, you are confusing us with others   

There are desired option, like four wheels, an engine, and for it to run.   I'm still working on a few of those myself and I've not been kicked off the forum......yet    (It's probably on the admin's "to do in the new year" list.  )
