I am going to fit a cooler, just in the breeze not fan assisted, and would like to know has anyone used the Mocal thermostatic sandwich plates?
They look like such a simple way to do the plumbing and would mean I wouldnt have to alter the pipework between filter and engine.
Cheers

not looked at mocal but a guy years ago had an inline thermostat the when up to temp opened and the oil went through the cooler instead of back into the motor. shaped like an H with 4 pipe connections and the central cross line for when cold.

Yes Snoopy, they are available and what I had on my 105e in the early 70s but I want to avoid having the thermostat in line like that as it is something else I have to find a way of fitting amongst my exhaust pipes plus all me expensive crimped oil lines would have to be remade.

The Mocal ones are a sandwich plate that screws on where the filter goes then the filter screws onto that, same principle, below 80c the oil passes straight through the filter, over 80 c the oil diverts through the outlets.
Benefit of that is the existing plumbing to the filter head isnt interfered with so a very simple retrofit.

Here is a link to one so you can see what they look like.

I want to find someone who has used one or speak to the supplier to understand exactly how it fits, I assume that the filter screw piece passes right through the sandwich plate and is separate and is used to bolt the sandwich plate on in which case the oil line exits can be lined up any way you like.  If the whole assembly is one piece and screws on then it is no use to me as I have to get the lines angled directly towards the front of the car.  Also need to ensure it has the right thread for the filter.
