Actually, I have one the of the cheap small Halfords ones too and yes they are prone to falling off and of course the screen needs to be clean as mentioned BUT....

Its more to do with the vacuum seal between the rigid plastic and the rubber "sucker" bit. Rub your finger on that rigid plastic rim and you will feel the lump/ridge from the injection moulding point. Its that irregularity which prevents getting a good seal so carefully sand that down so its nice and smooth and you should (I aint promising though) get a much better seal and it won't fall off.

I had a cheap Halfords one, not only did it fall off after a few days - it vibrated and jiggled all over the place so you couldn't see anything but a blur...

Hazel, Chris and I have both got the Halfords mirrors but we bought the ones in the baby section because they are slightly smaller than the others.  I must admit my mirror vibrates alot because my windscreen is not supported whereas Chris' doesn't because his windscreen is supported.

Yes mine is the smaller one too (used for mums/dads to view kids in the back seat) I don't seem to have a problem with the vibration, but to be honest have had in the past. OK so they aren't ideal, (Because of the angle and low height of my screen its the best one I can use so far) But now I get a good seal, vibration isn't an issue.

Had one of those sucky cup ones and as above could never see in it due to vibration, got one from Cool Air and glued it on and super but needed to re-shape the mount to suit window rake otherwise was looking at back seat!!!!

I have used super glue to hold one on ,in the past but even that fails after a time, the only thing I have used  that has never fallen off is the stuff you buy to bond in screens but its an expensive way unless you have a lot of things  you want to bond stuff too!

I have a probuction car one in mine and have got through no end of adhesive pads and tried the mirror glue and matting once, now it is on with a roughed up glass surface and mirror mount bonded with liquid metal mix and the sun has not affected it.
the halfords suction one in the other is fine and only fallen off once in 17 months and does not vibrate.

I have tried various mirrors, however none of them stick - they all vibrated loose, plus all I can see in them is one of the cage bars anyway, whether I mount it high or low, so I gave up. I am not sure if it is an MOT requirement to have one anyway.

Last MOT I had it in place for, it was just suctioned to the screen just in case it was a requirement - completely useless as a rear view mirror though.

What I would like to do is fit one that makes use of a rear facing camera that I can mount somewhere on the numberplate, cage or body but still shows the reversed image.

I can find suitable cameras, however all the decent screens are designed to mount to a flat surface or clip over an existing mirror, I want one that I can attach to a cage.

I like to abide by the 1st rule of Italian driving as stated by Franco (Raul Julia) in The Gumball Rally - "What's a behind me is not important" as he rips out and throws away the rear view mirror :)
