BUGGY RUNS GREAT THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN DIES. :'(
Posting on behalf of a friends buggy.....
Currently running 009, electronic ignition, new coil and a single solex carb,
The other evening my friends and i took the buggies for a spin and all ran lovely until all of a sudden the engine died.
It has now been happening for a while now bless him ??? now beggining to get a bit frustrated, (Its not lack of fuel )
We gave it a couple of minuites and it started first turn. seemsto only die when it gets hot, Any ideas,
Steve.

fuel vaporization due to getting too hot, carbs, timing and valve clearances

Hi Steve, If it starts first time after you have left it a while, it does sound like an electrical fault. The fuel cut-off solenoid on the carb could be the problem, or the points condenser. If it was a faulty coil, I think it would take 15 mins or so to cool down so it started again. If it was a faulty wire connector getting hot, I think it would only do it a couple of times before it lost connection all together and wouldn't start.

How long does he have to leave it before it starts again?

new does not mean it is fit for the job these days. see how hot the coil gets they should get warm to touch but not hot hot.
best do 1 thing at a time as doing multiple bits you will not know the actual cause.

Just read the post again!, electronic ignition ooop's No condenser then. So coil or electronic ignition or the carb fuel cut off solenoid.  How long does it run for before it dies? Coils are oil cooled so take a while to warm up before they play up say 10miles plus before they break down so check as Snoopy say's

Hi it's Shayn, I have just joined the site as Gpshayn and Steve has put this post up for me. It's not the fuel cut off as I can hear it clicking when taking the wire off and putting it back on and I also changed the carb, I think it's a fault with the electronic ignition or coil as when it cuts out it doesn't start unless its left about 3mins, it's happened at different times and I can drive maybe 30 miles before it does it again and it's not always a regular thing. there is fuel in the carb and you can see the fuel  going down the carb when using the throttle,

Mine used to do that with el-cheapo EMPI Accu-fire electronic ignition. I put points and condenser back in, problem solved.

Well done Phil! They do get mucky or just wear out and if you have a big bunch of key's hanging there, it can wobble the contacts so they play up over the bumps  ;D

im just wondering if my coil could cause the missfire at 4000 rpm as does it once warm ive noticed since fiddling today, igniter is supposed to adjust spark at higher revs but if coil playing up reducing spark that would cause missfire im thinking.was going to fit points and condenser back in but carnt find a condenser in my bits and bobs pot never mind may just swap the whole dizzy and coil over next week.get somwthing better that adjustable for curve.
got two weeks to bug jam got to run down the black stuff.
