Yep - If you you see it for real then I probably do deserve to be thrown in a pond  ::)

Apparently there was some sort of sporting event on last weekend, and it meant that going anywhere public would be like entering a war zone, so I decided to do some clearing up in the garage, or at least that was the initial intention. I found some lengths of galvanized electrical conduit, the stuff you hide cable in the walls with and had a mad idea.

Because I had also found a box of waterproof high intensity (SMD 5050) green led's from when I was messing about a few years back with lighting up the engine bay.

The shape and size of the Led's fitted almost perfectly inside the shaped conduit channel, and a few hits with a grinder and a file opened up some holes.

A quick splash of paint and some glue, and it was time to fit them in place into the side channels of the chassis.

The bolts I had used to secure the bodyshell were quite long, and allowed an extra nut to be fitted to hold these in place.

Connect up a 12v supply via a switch and "hey presto !"

Apparently there is another sporting event this week, so I might get some free time to make up the other side to match

Dave that's brilliant! Funnily enough I think I've got some conduit at the back of the garage too. Do you mind if I nick that idea? No idea what the best leds - any pointers please?

Yes Dave that's pretty.

I went for a walk down the lanes last Saturday and it was eerily quiet.

You might get invited to lead out the forthcoming victory celebrations...

The whole reason for posting it is to inspire madness into others as well  ;D

If looking on the net for LEDs, 99% of what you see will claim to be waterproof when they really are not, so I would be looking for something that is completely encapsulated with 12v wires coming out the back (I used 10 on each side) and certainly not the conventional ChineBay open strips that are cut to length. LED technology moves fast, and whilst the latest generation of "COB" is certainly the brightest (easily identified as they have a bright yellow coating on them, where others are clear), the colour range is not quite there yet which is why I went for the 5050 ones. If you want a quick crash course on the LED strips, then this page was quite good - but it must be stressed that these are the types of strips to be avoided in wet areas.

If searching on the net for them, try  " SMD 5050 12v LED Module "

Thanks for this Dave. I have to admit this subject seems more complex than I thought. I want to use leds on the buggy and the bus but am struggling to understand the differences between the various types. Will need to try and get to grips with it.

Since her operation, one of the things Lisa sometimes struggles with, is looking directly behind us to see the convoy of Buggies that are following and it got me thinking that this could be easily solved by adding one of those little mirrors like they have for driving instructors.

And tucked up behind the main interior mirror means that it doesn`t really affect my line of vision either.

If you carry passengers on a regular basis, then this £5 add on could make their Buggy trips even more enjoyable too   ;-)up

Apparently something was going on this evening . . .

So it gave me a good chance for some peace and quiet in the garage to finish off the other side of my lights

The trouble is, that I now want even more  8)
