I had to do a similar bodge to my webber air filter to get it to fit - yours looks perfect to me   

mole grips will pass the mot aslong as it does not blow to much or is insecure

Just thinking the mole grips needed a bit more polish

Had to cut my filters about and managed to get an ultra thin one for Mark's Doon.

Buggy getting there now. Like the exhaust mod. Done a few DIY exhausts myself over the years too with varying degrees of sucess.
