This column is just meant as a set of simple signposts to guide through any changes made to it throughout your buggy's life. It's the law that if make any changes that affect the vehicle description on your V5C logbook then DVLA need notifying (especially simple things like colour in these days of ANPR cameras etc) it doesn't need to be painful but could affect an insurance claim etc if you don't.

Changes to vehicle basics like COLOUR (no documentation or photographic evidence needed) and ENGINE SIZE and/or number (no evidence needed for a Historic vehicle but sometimes they need reminding of this so a little note won't hurt) can be changed simply by amending and sending off the V5C (logbook) to the DVLA. Note when changing engine size they expect the exact capacity eg when you replace your 1200 motor with a Rover V8 they'll expect to see 3528cc on your form and not just a generic 3500cc 🤣🤣🤣 Best practice has been found to just do one change at a time as they seem to get confused easily:

If you've LOST your V5C (logbook) or didn't get one when you bought a car or project you can apply for one online or download a V62 form to apply by post from here. You'll need the registration number and chassis number. I believe the current cost is £25.

To change your 40+ year old vehicle to HISTORIC TAX this can be taken care of at the Post Office at time of renewing tax. Full details here, no extra paperwork needed:

If you want to declare your vehicle as MOT EXEMPT (as long as your vehicle meets the guidelines) at time of taxing at a Post Office you can print out a V112 form from here:

Form for notifying DVLA of e.g. a BODY SWAP as you would if building a LONG WHEELBASE buggy on a standard (in every way) VW Beetle chassis. Note that any alterations to the chassis including to the floors and the vehicle will need IVA testing to be legally registered. I've found it best to answer this form as much as possible "Standard VW", include a few photos including chassis number and one with a tape measure showing that the wheelbase is still standard.
