Need to use the stock bug speedo with the two tabs on each side. I've cut a hole, but what now? Easy option would be two bolts though the dash, but that would look horrible. Any ideas?

bond 2 studs onto the rear of the dash or cut the tags off and fit a large jubilee type clip around the speedo up against the dash.

Or use cap head stainless bolts and make a feature of them, sort of industrial look

You can fit anything to a buggy .... it`s fibreglass.... Bit of patience...if laid upside down keep head out of way.... clean surface ... roughen up thoroughly.... create mountings/attach nuts./bolts etc  using fibreglass mat/resin. When fitting nuts, for example have bolt in with threads wiped in light oil. This allows unscrewing with ease and nut threads are clean. I had made mountings for lucas wiper motor. relay mounts etc etc in this way. Laid upside down things are a pain I know but if I can do this anyone can

The stud idea was what I was going to do, until I realised that I'd made the tabs flush with the back of the dash, so glasses in studs would set it back, and leave a gap all the way around the Speedo.

I read about the jubilee clip idea on the SAMBA, think that's probably what I'm going to have to do

If there's enough step on the bezel you could cut off the tabs and then use a clamp like the smiths gauges use.  You would have to disassemble the speedo and put 1 or 2 studs on the back (bolt from the inside) and use a wing nut or similar to hold the clamp against the back of the dash.

Luckily he's decided to not run a screen, so no wipers 👍

However, when he changes his mind, I'll use a Lucas remote wiper motor.

Think I've messed up on this, I've made the hole big enough to put the speedo bezel all the way through the dash from behind, so the after market gauge bracket idea won't work because the gauge has to go in from the front for that to work. Looks like I'll be glassing it up and starting again..

If you've not opened it out too much, the Deluxe Speedo Trim Ring from JK (I guess other places do 'em too) could be a solution.  At its top end, it's a slightly larger diameter than the speedo bezel and has a lip.  The lower end is the same diameter as the outer ridge on the speedo bezel.  The trim ring can be glassed into the dash from the rear, and the speedo butted up to it, with a bracket also glassed to the dash to hold it.  Not as much effort as I've made it sound and looks good too.

Did this in the end. There's a strap or bar that will go across the back of the speedo to hold it in.
