3 quick questions please
In a twin filament bulb which one is the stop light? one of them is further from the contacts
Does it matter which is on top ?
And which light goes to the outside of the buggy stop/tail or indicators ?

The stop and tail bulbs have staggered pins that locate them in their holders so the
two power feeds are always correct when you fit the bulb...

The filaments are different wattage, and it would be easy to test which was which
by hooking a lead with 12 volts up, the brighter of the two filaments will be the brakes....

The indicators have a pair of pins at the same level, and they can be fitted either way round.

I have my indicators mounted at the outside with brake/tail inboard...

You can't
really tell which is which unless you drop a battery across the contacts. If I was pushed however I would say the smaller of the two elements is the brake as it glows brighter I think...

As for position it makes no difference whether the brake / side or indicator is on the outside or inside as long as they are a minimum certain width from the centre of the car (the dimension is in the IVA manual somewhere).

they're pretty blinding of a night time if fitted to the inside

My A3 certainly as them on the inside on the front, but may be different for the back, will have to check.

I think rules for the front may differ when side repeaters are fitted

the filament function is irrelevant as they are in the holder together.
as for which is where the mot does not take into account the position unless it is obviously incorrect, unlike the IVA and construction and use regulations so fit them to suit the look.

Hi Moss,

The ones on the back of the CTR are from an Alfa Mito, outer ring of led's, side lights, next inner are brake and the middle is the indicator.
