When i built this back in 98 i wasn't really too bothered how fast it went, going a fair speed (60) was fine for a while.
Upgraded the tired stock 1300 to 1600 then a Microgiant hill climb lump went in then 1641 p&b on that and then sold it when i moved house.
A few years later i bought it back, recon chassis from Mark at Flatlands, re wire and rebuilt the 1641 and all was well...............................until i started seeing type 4's in buggy's.
A few years later and Farmer Rob rebuilt an engine i bought.  Type 4 1911cc C35 cam, bit of a hybrid with 1700 block with solid lifter kit, 1911 HC piston kit, 2.0 CU heads and twin 40 DRLA's with custom made cannons. This motor shifts and the noise those cannons kicks out sets off car alarms and rattles town centre windows and driving through Cromer high street is epic, like a tunnel, only with old people and dogs running for cover  If anyone else is thinking of doing the swap, go for it. You'll not regret it, well except when you see how much exhaust's will cost!!! Still only money, memories last for ever.

Missed the time for the planned steering upgrade last winter as moved house and no time to sort the garage so come this winter front off and rack and pinion steering kit going on, might steer when you turn the wheel then!

Type 4 engine great for  a street car, but it also weighs 100lb more than the type 1,so not so practical in the sand which is what they were designed for IMO

The only time this will see sand is if i take it to the DIY shop to collect it. They don't like people driving on the beaches here, only a few places that allow it as you probably know, mainly wales. Sad really as i live a 10 minute walk from firm sandy beaches of Cromer but have to stay on tarmac!  It certainly sits it on the road nicely though which is where its driven so all good
