Hiya, some of you guys might of seen this on ebay last week and wondered which idiot had bought it; Well that would be me lol. I am hoping to get it on the road for the NEWS  meeting for my daughter to drive. looking on the DVLA site, it looks like it has not been on the road since 1989; So it could be a big ask lol.

The engine is pretty worn out, lot's of end float  . But that is no problem, I've got my old engine to put in it  . I have got to give it a blast up our old gated road to see if the gearbox is OK. I noticed one of the back wheels has oil on it!, not checked to see if it's brake fluid or gearbox oil yet. The chap had put brand new coil overs on it, so I have taken these off it today; that has dropped it down a bit. The front beam is an old one with an adjuster on the top leaves so dropped that a bit too, so it's stance looks a lot better now. The chrome on the wheels has seen better days, so I will swap them for now. But those rear tyres are well wide, the treaded bit is a foot  .

I thought I would put the rear coil overs on my Rat, as the type 4 engine has lowered it about an inch, so they could bring it back up a bit again.

Nice time capsule find! A Selecta-Drop? Seriously cool! Excellent tyres but they'll be rock hard they're so old, nice uncut body and good looking ANSA exhausts. If it were mine I'd need to tidy up those front sidelights and indicators and the chequerplate would have to go (could turn into an effective guilotene in the event of a shunt) but its not so I'll shut up. Good buy!!!

Hi David, yes those front lights indicator and side lights have to go    and the wheels and tyres!. The chap has rewired most of it, so there are switch's and warning lights all over the checker plate dash, so the dash might have to stop for this summer.

The logbook say's Kingfisher convertible, could it be an old Dave fisher build?

The shell is the original Red metal flake gel coat, which doesn't show up on the photo's very well but is in quite good nick. Only one crazed bit on one corner where perhaps its had a slight bump to cause it. My daughter has been polishing it yesterday and it has come up quite well except for the bonnet!. Can you "T CUT" gell coat? it has faded a bit with the sun 

Hi Beelzedub, if you need any measurements for your project, you can have a measure  . I forgot to ask, did you get my can measurements?

The flakes are suspended in clear gelcoat so if you go too heavy with the T Cut you'll go through the clear and start taking the coating off the flakes leaving them silver. If the flakes are faded there's not a great deal you can do but a coat of clear laquer can liven them up. Why not get a big 'ol Vulture' sticker done for the bonnet (Kombat was a slightly updated version of the old 70s Vulture Buggy) in the style of a 70s Pontiac Firebird? Just a thought...

gets rid of any slight surface scratches too
have a read through my 'how-to' on polishing / renovating plastics
process is exactly the same for gel coat
1200 wet n dry all over till totally flat and blemish free
t-cut to restore the surface shine
should come out looking like new

Hi David, I like your vulture idea!!! I nearly got a phenix one for my RAT buggy as it had got flames on the bonnet. Only problem is that my daughter has had ideas of putting those eye lash stickers around the headlights  .

Thanks for that Gatecrasher, I'll have a closer look at the gell coat later but I am thinking just the top layer has got bleached and turned a bit white, so that you can not see through to the colour and flakes so well. But as David say's a big bird on the bonnet could look good 

Oh another question on my buggy! As it is a Q plate, the tax seems to be £77 pounds for half a year as it is down as a 1300. How much would the tax be if I was to put a 1600 or a 1835 engine in it

I might be needing one of your roof's to go on it!. Can you give me an idea of how high they are off the rear body work, to see if they will clear my roll bar. I see someone had put one on a white Kombat but on that photo, it looked low on the back or perhaps had a high screen.

Will yours be ready for NEWS this year do you think?

Awesome, your quick  building skills are putting me to shame!

I don't think this is that low to be honest -



but we were thinking of making a 'step' that goes around the back to give a few inches to make it higher. Anything is possible, I guess  I think it also depends on how much of an angle the windscreen is at.
