Dave, with this column would i be able to take the twin switch unit off to my current one and fit it to this? I know how to take it off but just wondered if its a better option for me when i get to fit the rack.

I would guess that the ign/swith casting would be interchangeable if the outer column is the same dia. There's an allen head bolt through that hole.
Another Dave in Cornwall but not Cornish Dave.

As said, I never played about with this to determine any sizes, shapes, etc

I just grabbed all of the steering bits I could knowing that I would then have everything I needed should I need to start cutting, chopping and welding

Not much help to you I`m afraid . . . . But I can certainly give you a few days to find out  ;-)up

To split the column apart. Undo the four screws that hold the switchgear in. Under this you'll find the ignition switch. There may be two plastic caps. Remove these and the screws underneath. Theis will enable the top of the switch casing to be removed. You can leave the ignition switch in but may need to depress the lock or insert the key. Underneath on the main shaft is a crescent shape clip that has to be knocked out. Undo the hex bolt. The main shaft should now come out.  To access the bearing you will need to undo the circlip, squeeze in. Let me know if you need any pictures or parts as I've a few columns and it's one of the jobs I'm doing on my own car currently as Dave has seen and not a buggy.
