Sent for v5 with just chassis number, receive letter back saying there is a problem and wanting a built up vehicle report.
Emailed them stating a report was not needed as it was an existing vehicle.
Vin to reg provided a registration matching the vin.
Emailed dvla to add the registration to my application
Google image search brings up the blue buggy picture, which has led to the club contacting the owner of that buggy, and informing them what is happening
Yes it is a total fuster cluck
But has now reached the long wait for officialdom to go through the motions, so any advancement could be a long time coming

All down to dvla now, I have no control or influence over anything.
I presume the way this will unfold is
Dvla will contact blue buggy about the registration, which I assume they will want to keep
Dvla will want an inspection of both vehicles
Dvla will make a decision

Or maybe something entirely different

Still not heard back from dvla, so have sent an email to them enquiring if anything is happening regarding my v5 application.

The letter they sent to me, about a month ago requesting additional information, included the option to communicate via e-mail

Prior to lockdown, if you could get a nominated caseworker on board, it was certainly possible (but not easy) to track them down and chat with them by phone - however, with most of them working from home now, I`m not sure how possible this is at the moment

Still not heard anything from dvla, so have fired off another email to their " where's my v5 " department
buggy has been on the back burner due to lots of motorcycle projects

Make sure you also have to hand as much history and provenance as you can, pictures, photos, anything to prove its an old car and not a build in the last 20 years - difficult I know, but you need to get the inspector to accept its old and just needs an age related reg number

Don't have anything to prove any history of the buggy except the shell is a mk2 manta, so dates from the 70s, the original chassis number on the pan relates to a 59 beetle, but as far as registration goes, it was registered as a beach buggy in 1974, the consideration here is identifying which buggy the ID belongs to

Stick hard to that story - VERY HARD !
Even something like the Dune Buggy Book with pictures would add confirmation that these were done mid seventies, have that book to hand

the consideration here is identifying which buggy the ID belongs to

Try not to allow the conversation to go down that route at all -
Yours is old, has old bits and should therefore remain on old plates - Try and keep to that story

That is the inspection done, pictures of buggy, chassis and engine numbers taken, inspector says he will now write report to dvla, and they will then contact me.
What the outcome and timeframe will be is unknown

I assume they will use the chassis number to tie it to the original buggy registration number on record the original beetle log book registration number should be off the system.
