it has been quiet with the covid restrictions but these arrived today.

195/70 X 14 fronts and 215/70 X 15 rears so as everything is closed into the shed and bead breaker out
got first one on a change from the 275/60 X 15 that were on the 7" rims but needed a squirt of brake cleaner and a flame to initially get the beads to seal.



the fronts went on easily and are soft walled so should be good on the biggy but up from 185/60 X14


they can get balanced at the mot station later on.

Turned it grey yesterday then red before the rain came today but it is tight in the concrete section garage as it was windy.


now have to wait another 3 weeks now to get the gearbox, roll bar, headlights, fuel tank, wiper assy + odds and sods to finish it off

Number plates arrived today from EJ parts and accessories on e bay happy with £21.99 for an oblong and square black & silver pressed aluminium plates complete with 10 pads

The paint work really brings it together and makes it look smart.

Lock down travel restrictions lifting meant a quick dash to Stockport to get the gearbox with social distancing as the owner was going back off shore for another stint on the 20th also got a roll hoop in 3 bits and other small stuff has arrived so back on the build.
Gearbox has been stood for years but oil  drained was ok the drums were rusted out and full of Spiders eggs but it had new shoes and stuff fitted so new cylinders and 1 hub seal later with a drum swap it is good to go. Roll hoop sleeved and welded back together and harness brackets fitted.







Need to modify the fuel tank and narrow a 1303 wiper assy to fit the go bonnet so light at the end of the tunnel at last.

Keith... Just catching up on this thread. Things going nicely. Strange this covid crisis. They say every cloud has a silver lining. I am hearing from numerours home build parts suppliers etc that they have never been busier order wise with replacement stock becoming limited due to their suppliers fullfilling pre existing orders with reduced staffing.

Anyway... a question if I may..  Do you know if square front number plates are fully road legal ?  Take care and stay safe Paul

square plates are fine as long as they have the correct size and shape font spaced out, just thinking plates need suppliers name and post code on them hence all the crap when buying new do they look for this on IVA as it is a new  build car. The Gp plates came with no maker id like plates were back then.

I had a feeling that square ones were not permitted on the front after a certain date, so as a new build, you may be required to go conventional style

strange they show a standard front plate but say the 3 line ones are only allowed on pre 2001 which hints that 2 lines is possible so as clear as mud but agree it seems they want you to get ANPR friendly plates. not seen anyone loosing plates for the italics and spacing personalisations they hate.

Today was a simple plug the 1303 wipers to the Column switch after removing my loom Connect the earth and put a live in.  Mmmm wipers no work and blows a fuse so reset able fuse in Have a look at the motor speed 2 fine speed 1 works as a constant with the ignition no fuse blow, looks like time to strip the switch out as that is unknown. So fitted the motor instead just needs the fuel tank modifying and hoses. Pedals out to fit a new cable as doing it through the chassis hole is impossible with big finger. Got it outside for a photo or 3
Engine fit shows the Rearbody is 1/4 to the left with the twist in it And putting it back down the 1" has caused it to foul the fan shroud.

It`s maybe an age related thing Keith but I like best the old black plates with the raised metal script and for some reason I like the square front type and also no rubbish writing advertising on them. Guesss it will come as no surprise that iva requires the modern reflective versions with the appropriate plate size, font size and font spacings and that eternal edge radii compliance. Rubber edging is used often or the plate is recessed below curved surface of a mounting piece. I know iva is about safety principally but it is endless in radii requirement.
