hi all when adjusting the splines do both sides go forward or does one go forward an one go Back if so which side does wich chears

If you're raising the rear the nearside springplate turns clockwise and the offside anticlockwise.

For lowering, the opposite.

Don`t want to confuse things here....  The torsion bar splined system is simple but gives very comprehensive adjustment range.

The inner and outer splines on each bar are of a different number. This allows a process that engineers called "indexing". So for example if you were to rotate the torsion bar on it`s  inner splines in one direction and one spline is insufficient but two is t0o much etc. By rotating the plate in the opposite direction you get to where you want to be. If you read about this on the web it all sounds complex but when you have the plate and torsion bar in your hands it`s becomes plain to see. It is worth getting this as right as you can. 

Issues I had when I raised mine were the sheer force in the springs that you have to control when releasing it and then compress when putting them back. Not a difficult job but be very careful and count your fingers afterwards.

Yes.... good point.... As said the plate will wedge on the iron lip as it dips. You may need quite a bit of force to lever it off and if by chance the torsion bars are still set up as for a Beetle then they will come off with an almighty bang and can fly for yards at speed. Just do keep hands arms head etc well to one  side. If you find a plate or both stuck fast on the outer splines this can be corrosion or someone having banged the end distorting the splines. Will come apart if you ask your local garage to use an oxy\acetelene torcH.

Wouldn't too much heat threaten the spring in the torsion bar?

Both the torsion bar and the spring plate are spring steel so any heat should be contcentrated on the splined boss and not too much of it.
