Smart looking buggy

Got the stainless outer column tube and mount from flatlands Mark. Found a NOS 67 indicator switch, the reproduction ones are not that great so I was happy to find one. Steering wheel is an eBay find, 67 again and in good nick. I put a 67 type steering bearing in the lower end of the column tube to stiffen everything up. I'm not a fan of floppy steering wheels!

I modified the flatlands column clamp tube by cutting it and using a large bearing split clamp to secure the column- makes it a lot easier to whip the column out as I didn't want to cut the bottom of the dash to allow bonnet removal with column in situ, I wanted the column to go into a neat hole in the dash. Basically my obsession with keeping everything tidy is making it take much longer, but I'm hoping it will be worth it!

Some neat Flatlands stuff here. Re- steering column hole through the buggy tub. Could you give me an idea where the centre of the hole should be in inches, (or centimetres), down over from the top of the tub and distance from the centre line of the admirals hat.

I won`t hold you to the accuracy of any measurements.. I too hate this hole positioning. 

I usually drill a small pilot hole or two and line things up with a long thick gas welding rod or similar before I break out the Starret hole saw.

Hi Paul, I'll get some measurements for you, but the beam on mine had the location pips for the steering box ground off as someone in the past had been "customising". This means that yours would most likely be different position wise. Top tip- 15mm copper plumbing tube slides nicely over the male spline of the rag joint with a couple of wraps of tape around it. Use a short length to see where it hits the bulkhead, make a small hole and enlarge from there. I alway one up chasing the bloody position around though!

Picked up the exhaust today- Mike from www.vintagevolkshaus.webs.com as always has done an amazing job- I first saw his work on here on some other members buggies and knew he was the man for the job! Thank you Mike, a very talented guy. I have now run out of money so it's on to the boring jobs now like wiring and cleaning up the engine.

Thank you for this.. Brill tip and I will use it. Yes mine has the pips.   Really like your buggy.  ( Chasing around... been there too in the distant past, also with the fuel filler hole and end up with an oversize hole. )
