Great Forum here's my project .

my plan was originally to by a Doon kit and build my buggy from scratch but 4 weeks ago i found the Doon Buggy for sale 3miles away for a great price.

Doon SWB built 2008
1971 Chassis
1641cc
Twin Weber 34ICT Carbs
Swing Axle
AB Gearbox

Had a few jobs to do straight away to get it running 100%









I have had the A frame  fitted so we can tow the buggy with or motorhome to France every year





i've also had fit all new engine mounts as the movement was making it jump out of 1st gear due to the excessive movement.







Future plans are to fit my 12A Rotary Engine

Pete... Do you remember the RSU wankel rotary engine when it first appeared in the UK and the rotor seals lasting about 1500 miles maximum, (from new that is). ?

Pete... Do you remember the RSU wankel rotary engine when it first appeared in the UK and the rotor seals lasting about 1500 miles maximum, (from new that is). ?

The Apex seals are alot better these days 

i'll be running pre- mix too , all the oil injection system has been blanked off .

Pre mix in a buggy, will be hard to shake it up after it has stood unlike the 2 stroke moped you could man handle easily.

it will be ok i have 2 x 2 stroke bikes 

it takes 3 weeks for the oil to seperate if not remixed , plus i have aload of speed bumps of or road to remix it 

better than injecting engine oil from the sump which isn't designed to be burnt, pre mix will extend the engine life .

Never heard of 'Apex Seals' but hopefully they will do the job, Yes!, I do remember
the failures in the early days but things have developed over the years in leaps and
bounds and nothing stands still with technology these days

Didn`t say I wasn`t a rotary lover. There has to be many benefits. Much more compact than a piston engine. Fewer moving parts and I presume lighter. I worked with a guy who bought a NSU with the first generation rotary wankel engine. After only a couple of weeks it was returned to the dealers and a second engine fitted. Same thing. Both occasions rotor tip seals. became a National issue. I know the problem has been resolved but have never been up close to a modern version.

Kennedy Engineering adaptor kit has arrived as well as the stage 2 clutch kit 



Just awaiting the arrival of the Weber 48 IDA now  ( Bridge Port Spec )

The standard water pump has been removed as i will be running an electric water pump





as a result the alternator has been relocated with a Franklin Engineering kit from NZ

 


Uprated 8mm HT leads too fitting on the Lead and trailing spark plugs

 

12A Bridge Ported 240bhp spec with 48IDA Weber Carb spec
