Took sympathy on the engine and gave a few bits a rub down with 80 grit and slapped on some Hammerite (and I mean slapped).
It's as rough as houses, but still 1000 times better looking than before I started.  If I could only get the blighter in!!  (see 'engine help' section for details!!)

I wondered how long it would take for someone to suggest that. But it's deffo NOT old gold.  Any further suggestion that it is may end up with a strongly worded letter being issued by my solicitor!      

So, got the engine running today.
A couple of issues though.  The engine lid won't fit because the air filter is to tall.  I see a visit from Mr Tin-snips on the cards to modify the filter.
More seriously there was a good old pool of petrol on the drive after I'd put some in the tank.  I think it must be either a loose fitting hose, which I doubt, of the spiral wire in the fuel hose from the fillet to the tank is not allowing a good seal.  Either way it's going to mean taking the bonnet off, and I thought I'd put that one to bed

Got some more bits through the post today, insured it, and booked an MOT.  Unfortunately the MOT is not til the middle of next week, which won't give me much time to sort anything out if needed before Stoneleigh, and certainly doesn't give me much shake down time

So back on topic - I like those tyres!

I'm not sure if it's the camera but I've noticed a few buggies where the rear tyres look quite bulbous as yours do whereas mine look a lot more angular and square - and no, I don't mean we haven't evolved enough around here to have progressed to round wheels yet!

I guess I'm saying yours look to be shaped more like an inner-tube and I like that 'plump' look.

It's probably down to tyre profile, tyre size/rim width, and pressure maybe. 

I've had the dizzy out and given it a bit of a clean and added a Pertronix ignition and flamethrower coil.  I just bobbed the dizzy it back in, so was very happy with how the engine ran considering the timing has not been set with any precision.

I've used Pertronix in mine for over 15 years. Fit and forget. Just a tweak to timing as things wear out 😳😜
