Only problem I can see is if the link cable fails you lose the hanbrake at both wheels.

Mr MOT tester will not pass cable clamps, either make a solid rod assembly with pins or a steel plate. if you want to keep a cable you will need crimped ends and forked end fittings with pins.

Posr 65 beetles loose the hand brake if one cable goes there is no requirement for a fail safe handbrake if one side goes..

Not looking at it from a legal point, more of common sense.

I've had a cable end part company on a late bias bar type handbrake and it still worked to a fashion but not as good. I suppose it depends on the wear on the pivot and locating dimple.

The standard Porsche 944 cable is a single long cable from the lever to one brake, with a linkage and short cable to the other side, so if that snapped on the long cable you'd lose the handbrake.

As said, if the clamps on the link cable are a no-no then by changing to some fixed links that solves that, but if I use 2 links I'd still retain some functionality if a cable broke, it wouldn't be as good as the towbar would move to the side so would need a longer pull... but would probably still work.

TBH even if the clamps would pass the MOT, if there is a better way of doing it, then we will go that way.... it's all about the learning (mostly for Tom.... but quite a bit for me too)

Did this as a start, will make something prettier, but need m6 one end and m8 at the other

Just a thought but 2 turnbuckles in place of the link rods and a long eyebolt in place of the turnbuckle may be a better option as it would give you adjustment on both sides to keep it in balance.
You can get rigging turnbuckles with a clevis fitting on 1 end that would attach direct to the 944 cable ends.

someone pointed out I need locknuts on the turnbuckle as well, so I've just ordered some bits to pretty much do that

Will run a threaded rod back from handbrake to a block, then a turnbuckle rod with a rod end one end and a clevis the other

Fitted the fuse and relay boxes tonight



Did some wiring



And got some lights on the switches

We tidied the handbrake linkages up



Then we've been wiring



Fitted a battery clamp



And have been working on the engine cradle









Bit of fettling still to do, and fit brackets for number plate and reversing/fog light

Took the Fug for its MOT



And it failed

I broke the dipped beam switch (it wouldn't latch on, so I reached behind the dash to see if it had moved and snapped it off! )

And one of the dampers was leaking.... typical, we replaced the fronts but the rears were spax and looked ok, just a bit rusty. So we gave them a cosmetic tidy up....

A pair of dampers ordered anyway!!

A bit keen on the dampers unless they did not stop it bouncing you can pass with a light oil mist on them still only 2 jobs and easily fixed.

Not in my book it didn`t - If you and your son can build a road going car with only 2 fairly minor things to contend with, I think that is a massive achievement
