Not sure to be honest, somebody mentioned the garage on mirehouse,

Now today's issue fitted the resistors and the only slow the indicators if the lights arnt on ???
If I put the side or head lights on its back to the old speed >:(

Any ideas chaps

it seems you have a bad earth on the lights.

Thanks for that Snoopy Dave DnD suggested that, I'm going to run a test earth n see where we go from there  ;)

Right here we go earths checked to the rear lights each side has a separate earth as does the no. Plate light all tested ok.

But still flashers speed up when sods lights are on or the brake light,

The hazards are not effected.

What am I looking at here I've also checked battery - to chassis and chassis to front earth point all seam good.

Not sure what to look for, any ideas ???

you checked the front indicators and light earths? as earths can cause completely unrelated problems.
I used a non load sensing can so no resistors just led lamps on the Jas
I have never had problems with led misfunction so inspired guess work is all I can do.
are you using a standard beetle can, wiring circuit and switch.

That earth test lead we spoke of,  also needs to be tested against the front indicator earths also,

not just the rears

Tested the front indicators they earth ok

My multi meter has an audible thing when the circuit is made plugged one end into the earth plug and the other to chassis  and it sang.

Could it be the earth on the relay ?

electic current is lazy stuff it always takes the easiest way, so the earths may test for a circuit ok but they may have a high resistance so the current finds and easier one to use.
you can test circuits with a ohm meter for bad joints or the voltage through them at both sides of any joint,  a drop in Volts = a bad joint.
if you have standard beetle parts it could be the speedo earth relay earth and so on.

Keith,

Am I right in thinking the problems have only come about once you have put the resistors in?

Just a thought.

Is the rear light unit a shared single earth? Therefore the resistor will be bridged between the live to the indicator and the shared earth to the rear and brake lights.

So when putting on the other lights does this effect it as they too may draw something from the shared earth (don't know but Dave may have some better ideas.

If all else fails just wire another standard indicator bulb into each side from the indicator 4 way connectors. You can hide them under teh dash or even use them as side repeaters. Then you can remove the resistors ;-)up

Chad , to be honest I didn't check!

I might take them out and see if the speed changes with lights on or off and so on

Worth checking resistors are wired up correctly.

Wire to indicator bulb live needs to connect to one end of the resistor, and this same end is then extended to the actual LED bulb in the unit. ie: the bulb supply and feed are on the same end of the resistor.

Leave the earth feed for the light cluster connected to earth - no need to touch that one.

The other end of the resistor connects to earth also - some resistors have two wires fitted at each end, if so, connect both to earth. If still faulty, connect the earth test lead from the battery to the earth connection on the resistor and see what happens.

Right chaps,

Have up and dug out an old tail light put a plug on it and ran a new earth

And it worked a bloody treat no issues what so ever  :-[  :-[

This is the resistor I have 8 ohms 50 watts

Doesn't matter how I solder it in I get the same issues

Been at this most of today, I would be really peaved off if I hadn't put £5 worth of fuel in fired her up and drove it round the car park  ;D ;D ;D

I don't really want to change the lights any more ideas ??????

like Chad says ditch the resistors and hide the standard 21W bulbs in the circuit you could just couple all 4 up under the dash then splice 2 into the left and 2 into the right it will mean you can drive it legally then you can sort out the resistors or can at your leisure.
super quick would be just solder wires to the bulbs no holders then just connect to feed and earth they will not hurt flashing under the dash aslong as they are not lying on anything.
