Is the idea you can turn sharper corners or doughnuts by applying just the one side's brake ?

Yes, or if you're stuck in the dirt with a wheel spinning you can lock that wheel and transfer drive to the gripping wheel. They're still popular on off road buggies but most are hydraulic these days.
"Ah, Beach Buggies, sure, just a quick cheap way of getting a few more years out of a rusty Beetle. You can throw one together in a weekend." anon.

all ways called them fiddle brakes but unless off roading or auto testing very little use, Davids are fine out of the way but I have seen 3 beetle levers on a long hinge pin with the outer 2 bent out.

well boris didnt let us out much.. update on my buggy,
has been an ideal project for relaxing after work without being able to do normal stuff...
Lots of stuff done to my buggy,
new alternator, replaced all brake lines, refreshed suspension, new fuel tank, new clutch, new carb, plus plenty of other things i cant remember right now, oh exhaust baffles for the mega cannons (felt sorry for the neighbours)

started prepping for a respray,

good job I enjoy this haha , hopefully be able to go out in it this year
