Took a run out at the weekend to check out the cruise

Quick catch up.....

These two solex carbs have proved not to be anywhere near a fit and drive thing. (Some of this may be down to the fact I have a driven need to get anything working the the very best it can . For these carbs, at least my two, you can forget the 2 turns out with mixture screw and 2.5 turns of idle screw from the throttle stop. This just had the engine screaming at start up. On both carbs the choke to throttle lever held the idle screws away from the stop. (The return spring on the throttle spindle is very weak but it`s prudent to point out that these carbs were initially designed for the suitcase engines with a central axial throttle lever system "up on top").
So off with both choke heating element units and back to setting air flow of each carb and then mixture. There appears to be a higher flow of air. 10 on my balancer instead of 7 as with the ICT`s.
Out on the road then clocking up as many miles a s I can in order to "settle both carbs" with no chokes. (Will return to the choke bit when winter gets here).
The big surprise is the acceleration is instantaneous pulling rapidly to 70mph at which point I throttle back. The buggy is just too light at the front to be safe at higher speed.
The other pro is that the buggy will pull down to 28mph in top gear even up a slope. No labouring of the engine at all so I find I am not dropping into 3rd in anticipation of 30 mph.
There is a niggle however that I am still working on...... On occasion, as the engine revs drop on the "over run" , there is a single pop in one silencer but oddly not the same side every time so I know it`s carburation. As it runs so well otherwise with current ambient temps I am not going to change any jetting unless I have to.

Yep learned that the hard way 

Lots of buggy rubber available on ebay will sell for cash.also l60 x15 bf Goodrich low profile all terrain £60.loads steering wheel s.07855 542195

With some careful drilling or a dremmel you can take the peened end off the butterfly screws and take flap then the rod out so you can get it free. Put the screws back in with loctite so they do not come out into the engine.

The bi-metal spring seems to be working. It heats up and opens the choke butterfly as it's supposed
Once open, it gets stuck somewhere and stays open even when completely cold
I can close it by hand, but it take quite a bit of force
After that, it moves freely again, so quite strange
Guess I'll have to dig a little deeper to figure out where it binds
