Beach Buggy Rolling Chassis Help / Irs differences
Last post by snoopy - September 13, 2026, 04:42:30 PMThis may help others but thought I would swap back to long rear torsion bars as they are a bit softer on take up. Now the rear end is 1303 and had long bars but on build 15 years ago short ones were fitted just in case of tyre clearance. The original spring plate were also heavily corroded so binned.
Getting older I thought ok back to long bars so have been collecting parts the new stainless steel end plates arrived so spring into life.
Anyway strip it out adjust new ones to ride a fraction higher bolt them up then insert trailing arm only to find the front bolt is 12 mm lower in the new spring plate than the one in the A arm so without a 25mm high hole in the plate noway and the arm has not enough material to drill lower. The kango irs has the lower bolt like the new plates so VW must have had a year change on bolt positions.
Something I have not encountered before so reassembled as it was and start looking for correct parts.
