You can add me, Ilona and the Blue dog with a camper, awning and the buggy (obviously). I have booked the campsite directly for Friday & Saturday. We're definitely weather dependent but given that it will be glorious sunshine, we're in.

Quote from: Doon L001 on April 30, 2026, 03:42:25 PMHave you considered fuel pump at fault?
Do you have me manically or electric?

Worth checking it's pumping well under pressure

Hi Doon,

Thanks for your input.

Considered and disregarded on the basis that the fuel pump is working and fuel is getting to the carbs without any issue, just not through them. I am convinced that the problem lies within the carburettors themselves as I have pretty much ruled out any other potential fault.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your recommendation which I got quite excited about when I started reading, promising as it did, a low cost fix that just needed time. There's just one tiny flaw in the plan. You say "Get the buggy out. Start it up" and therin is the whole problem.

It just won't fire up.

At all.

If it would, I can see how blasting fuel through it on a few vigorous drives would help but alas, that's a non-starter (pun intended). If I had the luxury of a spare engine, or even a couple of spare carbs (which clearly would be a more than 50% cheaper solution than an EFI kit but doesn't prevent recurrence), swapping them out would be my first solution.

For "emulsion tube", read "accelerator pump spray tube"

More fuel delivery problems it seems...after my stuttering and stop at Beer and again at Swanage last year, I made the cardinal error of leaving the buggy stood still for the winter (albeit pretty much empty of fuel). Now, it turns over but just won't start.

It will try, a little half-heatertedly with a short squirt of Easy Start into each air intake and I know I have a good strong spark. I have topped up with E5 fuel which I know is being delivered to the (twin Kadron) carbs. I have removed, stripped, inspected and thoroughly cleaned every bit of both carbs (which appeared fine anyway), blasted compressed air through every orifice (the carbs, not me), lost and replaced both of the tiny steel check balls (2.38mm diameter), refitted, removed again, stripped again, cleaned again, refitted again and still have the same problem of fuel starvation into the throttle body.

Nobody I can find in the UK stocks a fully complete Kadron rebuild kit including an emulsion tube which I originally suspected as being at fault so I have two kits on order from California via a friend in Kentucky which I won't get until he comes over at the end of May. I am now thinking that the accelerator pump diaphragm may be the culprit preventing fuel getting through from the bowl into the venturi but both diaphragms look OK with no visible damage and I have the exact same problem on both carbs, manifesting at the same time.

I have separately ordered new diaphragms anyway as an almost last resort. I've also ordered The Complete Kadron Manual and both should be here tomorrow

If I fit them and still don't solve the problem, I am now thinking that even if the rebuild kits work when I finally get them, (too late for this year's trip to Beer ☹️), there's nothing that says the same thing won't happen again, and I will still have that annoying persistent flat spot that was always there even when it was running well.

So, after all the rambling, what experience is there here with swapping from twin 40mm Kadrons to an EFI system?
Which system would you recommend and why?
Will it be worth it for the lack of grief frequently dished out by carburettors?

Cost and ease of installation & set-up are factors. I'm no mechanic but have learned a lot every time I have had to tinker and tweak (thats what it's all about, no?) so a complete kit that's as "plug and play" as possible would be ideal.

I don't relish the prospect of spending £2K to get my buggy running reliably now and every time I go to start it in future, but I will if it means I'm back on the road and might even make it to Beer next weekend (as long as it's not peeing down).

Finally, if I bite the bullet, does anyone want to make me an offer on these twin Kadrons (complete with two brand new rebuild kits and some spare diaphragms) to offset the cost a bit?

Update:

I didn't get chance to test the temperature of the coil but replaced it anyway as that seemed to be the consensus.

However, a brand new coil supplied by Gav didn't solve the problem which almost everyone then diagnosed as being fuel-related (which was kind of the original thought).

A new filter along with some shiny new jubilee clips from Dom on some new fuel line kindly provided by Chad got me running well enough to take part in the cruise today (in the pouring rain!), should see me right to get through the actual carnival and hopefully all the way home to Bristol tomorrow.

I can't thank the guys here enough for the help, advice, parts and gentle pee-taking, you are all diamonds.

I have learned more about electrics, fuel system and other nuggets of maintenance hints and tips in the past 24 hours than I thought possible. I love this community.

I've made it to Swanage FC by the skin of my teeth and have a problem that I am hoping the collective expertise here can shed some light on.
My buggy ran perfectly for the first 2hours (75 miles) from home but then started a misfire... 3 cylinders OK, don't know which, one not. This developed not a full blown stall. Breakdown service called and he removed, cleaned and replaced the plugs. Another 5 miles and the same thing again. And again.

Every time it gets hot, and under load, sputtering and death. I made it as far as Swanage and called into a local garage where a lovely guy explained that he thought it sounded like an HT lead issue. As it was Friday afternoon and he already had a full workshop, he lent me a a multimeter to test my existing leads , telling me that anything above 8ohms was bad. All leads were below 1.5 ohms

I set off from Swanage FC to test it out after tightening up the threaded ends of the HT lead as suggested and five miles in, same problem.

My (completely uneducated) gut feel is that it's a fuel problem but having Googled it and spoken to a few people it could be the coil, plugs, or any number of of other possibilities. :'(

Where would you start, based on the fact that I'm miles from home, have almost no tools, potentially have a cruise tomorrow and the carnival on Sunday and need to get home, preferably not on the back of a recovery truck...

I've made it to within about 15 miles of Swanage thus far and have developed a fuel/spark problem - misfiring like hell :-[
Currently awaiting a breakdown service who will hopefully get me back on the road...
Gotta love these damn buggies  ;D

Hiya everyone,

Popped over to Swanage and got the option from "Coastal Cruises".
We could join the cruise at Swanage about 11.30 go to Poole then return to Swanage leaving Poole at 3.30. The trips last an hour each way. There will be live commentary giving information during the cruises, there is a fully licensed bar on board and for an extra £2 you are able to take your doggy with you.
The cost for the cruise is only £20.

If you're interested to join in please let us know so that we are able to book this and let them know by Wed 22nd July

Cheers Hunter and Carole

If there was an option to do this a bit later, say, 2:30, we would be in. We're coming down on Friday morning but won't get there in time to get a boat at 11:30... I know lots of people have already said yes to 11:30, but could it also work later for anyone/everyone? That way, maybe more of us could join... just sayin'  :D

OK. Change of plan for me.

The Blue dog is injured and therefore is housebound for the next 2 weeks so I'll be coming solo after all and will have to slum it in our tiny tent rather than the relative luxury of a camper. I will set off early on Friday morning, aiming to be at Swanage FC by 10:00 so I can join you guys for the 11:30 boat trip after all... please count me in!

Noted... that sounds like £30 well spent. On the day or in advance?Either works for us. We'll be there Friday and Saturday night, look forward to it (now that the forecast is kind)

Quote from: mk4buggy on July 09, 2025, 06:45:57 PMHi, I'm sure we can squeeze you in

In that case, please do. We'll come down on Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon (weather depending). What do you need from me, Mark?

Are there still any spaces for a camper plus buggy at the football club?

I'm currently planning to come down solo early morning on the day (Sunday) but depending on camping availability, there's a chance that my lovely wife and our hound will also come down which means we can all be there from Saturday or maybe even Friday and make a full weekend of it...

Hi all,
It's a long time since I posted on here but it's time I got my sh*t together again as far as the buggy is concerned. I am now the proud owner of a set of Turbovec wheels (this time with the right offset ;) ) that I am just about to get refurbished. As such, I need to get myself some suitable adapters and rather than going to a retailer and paying through the nose, I wondered if anyone here had a set they weren't using and wanted to sell?

Not many Hugh, there was a pro photographer there who took hundreds of photos but somehow managed to completely avoid my buggy :(

I took a few but there's only one that really shows it "in context" and even then because it was a panoramic shot, it's hidden behind a very short wheelbase RS4  ;D

Fingers crossed that my links work but in case they don't...
