Hi all, looking for some parts if possible. Due to a post on forum its been pointed out i need the following so wondering if anyone has them for sale. Chrome / Black im easy.
Old owner never fit them due to wanting to run the temp high all the time to disperse water (his views which are fine and understand) but id like to go more standard and as VW intended.
Bits needed are, doghouse cooler tins and the little clip on ones bellow the cylinders/above the pushrod tubes. if anyone has these and are willing to post / send. Please let me know. Leeds based :-)

thanks for all your help, i will return it to how it should be, dog house cooler tin ware, cooler's in between tubes and barrels and do away with the reducer on back of the fan housing. hopefully no damaged caused from previous owner.

Totally agree with comments, VW obviously know what they are doing.

just after a bit of info. i was always advised it was better to keep temp cooler in the buggy oil than hotter.
The sidewinder ive just bought the seller said the complete opposite. Hes done away with the dog house cooling tin, and also reduced the hole in the fan shroud by putting a plate over the top to reduce this. His reasoning for this as follows.

"You need a min of 113c to get the moisture out of the oil. If not your engine not last long, 90c is the temp of a everyday water cool car. The oil temp is around 120 c"
He also mentioned, VW bus, Beetle etc was all in a deck lid, where the buggy isnt and is open so will help cool the engine anyway, but sometimes this is too much.

Is there some reasoning in his idea? Or am i better off putting back to how VW intended?

So many of you may know / remember me. Been on the site since the start and came over from the previous Beach Buggy Forum.
Had a couple of fugitives then sold them up around 10 years ago to concentrate on family and houses.
Why have you come back you might ask hahahaha. Buckle in for the story.
The new journey started back out when i wanted to track down my late fathers buggy. I did track it down, but the price was way over what it was worth (number plate revoked by dvla). Sentimental yes, stupid i am not. But...... this then got me back looking and finding a love again for them and set me off on a journey to buy one. Myself and BuggyBaggy went to look at one local to us that i were offered after a great guy seeing my wanted post. His buggy was beautiful, very well put together and looked after but i just couldnt get over Saloon on logbook and still showing Beetle on various checkers.
I then stumbled across a VW Sidewinder while searching the web whilst on holiday in Gran Canaria. It was Somerset based though (im in Leeds  ) 
So i landed on the Saturday night 8pm into Leeds Bradford Airport, home, shower bed. Woke up and set off at 4am to Somerset on he Sunday. Got there around 8am, checked over, test drove and purchased the buggy.
I then had it recovered last week back up to Leeds where its currently in storage until i can get around to putting an MOT on it.
Was previously for sale around 10 years ago and bought by the previous owner and to be honest not done much since. It needed quite a lot of work doing to it and to his credit John the previous owner has done very well. If anyone else has any previous history / details please let me know, Also if anyone notices any issues please drop me a PM :-)

So a bit about it

VW Sidewinder, 1971, registered as convertible, 1641cc with twin webbers, Alloy spun tank (would like to put back standard and have tank in front)
Original Porsche Fuch's Alloy wheels, Cobra bucket seats, Checker flooring,Quick Shifter,  Lowered Front beam (eagle eye will spot red ring of death to be removed) Disc Conversion on front.
Its absolutely spotless and as you can see the underside is just as good as on top. Im really pleased with it and cant wait to get out and meet the local lads and get out on a drive. Dad's ashes have come back and im wanting to take him for 1 last spin before laying him to rest. I cant wait!!!

hi all, just wondering whats around and available?
recently got back into the buggy world while searching for my dads old buggy after his passing. Traced it and was offered it. Turns out its not registered as a buggy due to the dvla revoking the number plate and its really not worth the £8000 the seller is asking for it. gutted. BUT this has now made me want to get a buggy again in my life.

So im now back on the look out to see whats around, SWB wanted, i do currently have a vw buggy chassis that i can use so if theres anything out there that requires work ive got a good base.

Failing that i will be selling the chassis to put money towards the new VW Buggy.

Please let me know if anything around. :-)

I went to the 1st one they did. wasnt bad but full of watercooled golfs,polos,lupos etc. Not much aircooled there which was a bit of a disappointment to me. But may give it another go this year as not much on that weekend and will give me something to do.

I used to use a bbq paint from wilkos. only £4 a tin. used to see good results. Didnt fade if done correctly and didnt really have any complaints with it.

ive had 2. both on previous buggys ive sold on. my dads got one in his buggy and never had any issues with either of them. dads is still going strong 3 years later and the one i sold with my buggy is still ok. good value for money. i think also if you leave him good feedback on ebay or his page he gives you £10 back i think. no complaints from me.

Missed it this year. been going for the past 4 years but totally forgot about it. i thought it was this weekend coming.  . didnt realise until i recieved a message from shaggy last night then the pics ive seen. looks like a good show once again. doesnt look to have been as many buggys as previous years but suppose its all to do with the weather.
