I will grag some jetting imfo out, could you let me have your air corrector jet size as well. These are on the top end of the emulsion tubes. Rob
Hi, air corrector jets are 175.
Looking through my books it appears that 30mm venturi should work ok with 120 mains. It suggest 180 air corrector and 60 idles. This is pretty much my setup. I was wondering if going up to 32 0r 34 venturi would help.

30mm Venturi's should work quite well on your engine! Are you running 36 or 40 dells? and what camshaft have you got fitted? It is usually the exhaust that strangles these engines at higher rev's, what have you got fitted?

It is funny how we all like are buggy's to start with and then later we want a bit more power later  ;D ;D ;D. If you let me know what size main jets, air corrector jets and emulsion tubes you have fitted and I will try and see if they are in the ball park!

Rob
Hi, emulsion tubes are 9164.1 and main jets are 122. Idle jet is 60.Its got a merged  exhaust fitted and a engle 110 cam.

I have used both on a 1776 and would use a lightened one again. It will rev quicker but dont bother if engine is basically a stocker. Get a good quality aftermarket or use a machine shop

Beach Buggy Engine and Exhaust Help / Type 4
May 15, 2018, 04:11:17 PM
Hi, engine pulls well through the lower to mid but seems to bog down or just run outta steam at top end, its a 1911cc type 4 with twin dells. Although these came from Eurocarb supposedly set up I noticed that they only have 30mm chokes/venturi fitted. These seem a bit small to me, could this be causing the lack of "head".

Clive, Stonebridge Autoelectrics near Werrington can test the alternator and regulated for you. They're currently reconditioning my alt and they're going to test my regards with it when I collect it. Speak to Robert there. 01733 810121.
Ok cheers, will give them a try

The voltage regulators for the type 4 engines are sealed plastic ones now and don't usually give problems. The type 25 alternators have built in regulators but I don't know if they do built in ones for yours, if they do; I bet they are expensive. I would go for another external regulator.

Rob
Its got the CSP conversion so takes a normal type 1 alternator

Used one of the plastic external ones in the summer to replace a genuine vw one that was only just reaching 13v at times so far new one has been good as gold.

Check the wiring connections are sound and it is not loosing the supply from the ignition warning light where it senses the voltage.
So if it was losing the supply from the warning light that could cause it to over volt?
