Biting the bullet and going to buy a new engine. After years of building the buggy I've never managed to get the engine to work. I've never seen it running, it leaks oil everywhere, compression is only ok and there's a bit of end float.

So taking the fact I have a big birthday coming up to splash some cash on a new engine. Thinking something like this - https://www.theengineshop.info/acatalog/Big-Bore-Thurrock-Engine-1776cc-Plus-211100034_1776__.html

Anyone have any experience with these ? good or bad ?

What sort of carburettor would go best with this ? don't want to spend a fortune so was thinking of 32/36 Weber, but I know very little about this so was hoping for some advice.

If I do go for a bigger carb than the standard Solex, would the standard fuel pump be up to the job or would I need to upgrade to an electrical pump ? Do different carbs require pressure regulators ?

Trying to get all my ducks lined up before ordering

Beach Buggy Electrical Help / Charging Light
November 26, 2018, 02:21:32 PM
The wiring on my buggy is all bespoke. I've got a query on the charging light when running a dynamo. I've tried following Pete's wiring diagram, but a bit confused over this. The charging light connects to 61 on the regulator, but is it powered from the regulator, or earthed through the regulator ?

Yes please

I've got the cbs module in mine. It's a good bit of kit but quite expensive. Personally I'd have been better with fuse boxes & separate relay holders, I've got led indicators so the relay on the module is useless, Im also using a starter switch as well as the ignition barrel, so have had to be a bit creative

Excellent, that's what I'd thought when I looked at his wiring diagram, just wanted to check I wasn't missing something. Thanks   :)

Trying to figure out the wiring for the ignition light, as I'm not using the standard ignition switch. Does it take a 12v feed and earth through 61 on the voltage regulator or is the 12v feed from the regulator ?

you can do another way, ihave hella nos reverse switches for 6v cars.it fits inbetween the speedo and the cable.as the car goes backwards it closes the switch light goes on.
that would be great, but I've got an electronic Speedo. The engine is out at the moment, so I might as well take the gearbox out as well. There's someone on a local forum that has a spare nose cone with the switch already fitted, if I can't get mine fitted. Are nose cones interchangeable on different age boxes ?

Beach Buggy General Help / Reverse light switch

I want to fit a reverse light switch on the buggy. There is a plugin on the nose cone of the gearbox where I think it goes, feels like an Allen key should fit it. Any one got any idea what size key will fit ? I'd prefer not to have to take the gearbox out if possible  :)
