Hi all! Who would like to talk to me about steering columns?  :D
I currently do not have one, so the first step would be trying to get hold of one, but what do i look for? Is one year better than another? Does it need shortening? What will fit a Manx with the least amount of fettlin'? Am I likely to find a full column (with ignition) somewhere or will I have to collate parts from many places? A cursory search would suggest they are a little elusive (well, nowt on ebay :D:-\

Beach Buggy Electrical Help / Re: immobiliser
March 29, 2018, 01:37:57 PM
i have some door rubbers/seals, headlight glass, an engine seal, heat exchangers, engine support bar, a merged header, a brand new (unused) thunderbird ceramic coated back box... and some other bits I can't remember without looking in the box. I'm going to try and get some photos of them this weekend if the sun puts in an appearance.
I have some mexican heads too but unsure as to wether i want to get rid of those just yet.

I'll put all these in a new thread in 'for sale' at the weekend.

...until then... shall i just bin the immobiliser? :)

Beach Buggy Electrical Help / immobiliser
March 26, 2018, 10:36:46 AM
Hi guys, I don't really know if i'm posting this is the right bit... but i found this in my garage yesterday... No idea how i come to have it or what it's for? I'm pretty sure its not something i could get working on my buggy tho. Does anyone have any experience in these things? Is it useful? Does anyone want it?

I'll also have a few things to sell, but I'll put them in the sale section.
They're mainly bay bus bits but I'll offer them to you guys first :)

That buggy is so freakin nice. Really well proportioned and stanced. One of my favourite ever buggies :)

theres a lot of van tyres coming up on the search for the larger wheel... are they safe to use on a buggy?
#9
Does this look a bit closer to being sensible?
PS I don't know what the offset is, but i don't think it's relevant in this issue

YEEK!!!  ::) So yeah, it appears my information was utterly incorrect. I have no idea how i ended up with those tyre sizes!
Thanks for pointing it out!! ;-)up And thanks Merscury for those links. You've stopped me making a massive mistake!

:really really embarrassed smiley:

I certainly don't want stretched tyres, i just want safe with a touch of good looks.
And yes, the buggy will defo be street only. i just wanted the looks of the chunky tyres to start with. I'm a designer, I'm all about the looks lol  ;)

Beach Buggy Rolling Chassis Help / The tyre thread... ?
November 22, 2017, 05:04:35 PM
Hi guys, i can't seem to find anywhere we've just discussed preferred tyre sizes...
Can we do that here?

The reason i ask is that i have a set of 15s (6 wide at the front and 8 at the back) and i can't work out a decent combo to run.
I'm wanting a stance similar to RunningMonkey's buggy - low at the front, mean at the back... but because i'm a picky bugger, i want a nice tyre pattern too without sacrificing too much economy and road noise...

I've found a couple on MyTyres but would like to take advice before i go and purchase.
Initially, i wanted chunky off-roads at the back but in reality, it's not going to be practical (or safe probably) so will settle for something a bit more 'street'
I was looking at these:

Front =Maxxis AP2 All Season 155/60 R15 74T
https://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?PoD=110__R-287871__X

Rear = Goodride SW602 All Seasons 205/70 R15 96T
https://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?PoD=110__R-282074__X

There is also a controversial bit... I'm wanting to add tyre inserts.
I know they are very marmite as far as fitment and safety go, but it's happening. I just need to know how i can make them safer :D

What do you run?

VW Parts For Sale / Re: chassis for sale
November 20, 2017, 11:29:40 AM
Sorry admin! Rough starting price for chassis= £100 but very much open to offers.

BuggyPete - I need an early tank i think (something like the below) or a later steering column (with the crushable lattice bit at the front) - they're to go on a manx so i think that's correct

VW Parts For Sale / chassis for sale
November 16, 2017, 11:47:27 AM
Hi guys, I thought it'd offer this to you before i stuck it on ebay...
I've got a chassis that i need to sell, I'm moving house and don't have the space to store it any more.

It's a short floorpan - a bit shorter than a manx so a GP i think? In basically good condition but would probably benefit from new pans (or one at least ;) )
It has a V5 but the vin number is with the DVLA - they would be supplying a new one so any buggy built with this may need an IVA
Use it for parts or build something proper with it... up to you :)

I'm not after much for it, make me an offer. ANYthing considered :D I still need a fuel tank or a steering column *nudge*wink*  ;D
I'm in Bradford, just at the top of the M606.

Beach Buggy General Help / Measurements
September 01, 2017, 04:21:13 PM
I made this the other night for a guy who's helping me with my build... thought it may be useful to share on here?
It's a classic manx bodyshell from ECM. All measurement in feet and inches because my brain still hasn't got used to metric yet. Sorry.

Dimensions by Ian Higgins, on Flickr

I will probably update it soon with more numerous and more accurate measurements in mm
