VW Parts For Sale / Corvair Engine
March 21, 2016, 12:10:35 PM
Hi Everyone , I'm selling one of the Corvair engines i have .

Its a 1960/1961 , 140 cubic inch , 80 hp motor . I believe it was destined to go in a plane as the heads have been modified for twin spark plugs , I planned to blank one of the holes and run it as a normal single plug engine .
I was told it was rebuilt a few years back and never run . I have had one of the heads  off , and the barrels and pistons certainly look new , and I have had the cover off the top of the crank case and again it all looks new/rebuilt . I have pretty much everything to get it running , the carbs will need a rebuild , and the outside of the engine will need a clean .
This is the early , lower horse power engine , but still very torquey , and will sound great . You will need an adaptor kit to fit it to a VW gearbox , but they seem to be quite easy to get .

Any questions , give me a call , and I can email some poor quality photos if you want them . 07789961904 . Cheers , Rob

Made a load of black pulley covers for a guy who let me down , can make different colours but only if its a colour I have in stock , as its too expensive to order colour just to make one .What color you want ? You could paint it ...

Matt , I made the bonnet about 3 years ago , again for a customer who let me down . I doubt the flake would match , as they seem to change all the time .
You know I'll do you a good deal if you want a kit .

How does the flow coat work then?

Does it polish up better than the gel coat?

Tougher finish?

Sorry Dave , don't get on here much . The flow coat is just like gelcoat , same toughness , its just that it dries in the air properly . So should be able to polish it easier .

Hi Dave , funnily enough , I've been experimenting with this lately .

I friend is building his Suzuki 125 as a bit of a cafe racer . he said he'd love the tank and rear faring in flake .

He had a spare tank , so I stripped the stickers of , rubbed it down and sprayed it with my metalflake gelcoat .

It came out quite lumpy , 3 days later its dry to the touch , but a bit dull .

Next step , flow coat ( I do the underside of my kits in black flow coat ) . Flow coat has wax added to it , the wax rises to the surface so that the gelcoat dries properly . I am planning to mix up some clear flow coat and spray it over the flake . It may make it a little more lumpy , but it should then be possible to flat it quite a lot , then polish it .

If It works , I could flake a buggy shell for say £300 -£350 , but leave the polishing to you !!.

I'll let you know how the tank turns out .
