Sorry I'm beginning to get a bit disillusioned with Howdens.
This year exactly the same quote for cover and legal as last year BUT just like last year the admin fee has jumped.
I queried whether our site discount had been applied and was told it was off of the premium,  last year had the same conversation but was told it comes off the admin fee which was then reduced.
After nearly 12 years with them I'm getting sick of being treated like an open wallet rather than a valued customer

When I was looking at the relief valves Chris (Doon-L004) kindly sent me a set of plugs for use with Allen keys. Well worth getting as they stay on the end of the Allen key when relocating them.

Instead of draining oil jack up the LH side front and back and you'll only loose a little.

Not quite the same as mine, no gloop in mine, but mine needed a dose of Rob magic to sort.

Well Rob has checked it out and oil flowing nicely now. Only thing he found was a missing O ring on the oil pump.
Only bit I didn't send him was the external oil cooler so will run it for a while without and refit when I change out the flushing oil and see what happens

Always risky, although it's a fault that needs full reassembly to test so makes sense.

Have you ruled out flooding?
My twin carbs used to get warm from the manifolds and pressurise a bit when the engine stopped, causing it to flood.
Could hear fuel fizzing in the float chambers when it was really hot. Slightly thicker gasket under tge carb fixed it

I'm nowhere near you and have one roadworthy but no engine at the mo.

Plenty down your way, you should have home to Swanage there were loads there, all different.

A lot of the Greek ones are Doon rip offs or space frame jobbies.

Tip. First purchase a decent hat and a way of tying it on

I bought some from Ebay, 22 quid, they work nicely and at that price well worth a punt.

On the right track with taller tyres, worth going for a softer compound.

Wonder if they'd balance?

It's not just VW springs.
Always wondered why spring compressors are sold in pairs so the spring can ping out when a set of three makes it safer

I found biggest impact on stopping power is soft compound tyres at the front. Ditto for road holding.
