N.E.W.S. 2017 The event where the North, East, West and South get together in the Middle.
N.E.W.S. is a chilled out beach buggy oriented weekend to bring like-minded people from around the UK to camp, cruise and undoubtedly get a little silly.
Date: 14, 15, 16th July 2017
This year we will be staying at Lower Lode Inn again, which is where we camped in 2013.
http://www.lowerlodeinn.co.uk
I have booked and paid for the campsite that offers 10 electrical hook ups (hopefully enough this year) and should take another 15 'normal' pitches, which I am able to offer to you more cheaply than advertised on their website. There are also a number of rooms if others would like to book a bed.
Grass pitch with electric hookup (10 available) £21 per weekend
Grass pitch with no electric hookup £15 per weekend
If you would like to come along please let me know and if you would like to pay for your pitch my paypal is hazelbuller@hotmail.co.uk
Well behaved pets are most welcome.
Commemorative Stickers
There will be commemorative decals to remember the event, all proceeds to go to Alzhiemer's Society
Meals
BBQ, Curry night - what do you want?
Friday night
-Another quiz?

The Cruise - Saturday
Likely set off at 11am from the pub on the Saturday to do our cruise. If you want to come along on the cruise you are more than welcome but please let me know so I know roughly how many buggies to count for. There will of course be a photo stop or two to line up all the buggies.
Another of Millers Quiz`s would be good ;-)up

A thumbs up from me as well
Quiz night is a good laugh.
As for food. Tend to freewheel for that.
Does the pub have accommodation Hazel?
For some of the Newbies looking in on here -
N.E.W.S. is one of those camping weekends organised by Hazel, where we all get together and have a real laugh and a bit of fun. There is usually a really good cruise around some stunning scenery, and topped off by a few bevvies and laughs in the evening.
This will be open to everybody, and its one of those events that you really do not want to miss out on ;-)up
Being one of the newbies I'm gutted it's my birthday that weekend I'm working and can't get the time off have to make up for it at IBW lol
;D ;D
All sounds good to me... will pop into the diary ready. ;-)up

Hi Hazel
I think you will need to make an announcement to where this NEWS is soon to allow those who are not camping a chance to get a hotel or B&B digs in good time.
Apologies for the delay in posting the details...
This year we will be staying at Lower Lode Inn again, which is where we camped in 2013.
http://www.lowerlodeinn.co.uk/sleep/ (http://www.lowerlodeinn.co.uk/sleep/)
"Our lawned riverside campsite is an ideal place for a short break, with electric hookup, elsan disposal, drinking water, Shower Unit & 24hr toilets. Excellent Value Traditional Pub Campsite!!!"

If I remember correctly, last time Sam put on a buffet breakfast so it could be good to do that again. If you would like any meals from the pub, they just ask that you pop in and give them some notice so that they can ensure to accommodate all. It was suggested that they could put food on for us similar to the Gate Hangs High, so maybe a curry night or similar? Let me know what you'd like.
Lets start some lists!!
Is that the same place with the roaming dogs that ransacked the place eating everyones food out of the tents?
And staff that were "indifferent" about it to say the least !!
Or am I thinking somewhere else? ???
Stunning location - but is it the same owners, and are the dogs still about?
List

List
Alison and Lawson (electric hook up, please)
Paul and Sue (Merscury) electric hook up please.
I think you could be right Dave, And fair enough, it was an issue for several, I didn't have a problem with them - Me, leave food laying a round?... as if! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Seriously I know there were issues, but I thought it was a great location. (as long as there is hot water this time too)
So I'm happy with it - and happy to go back. ;-)up
Oh Hang on.... Hazel? ...... Have we checked for 4G on o2 or a very good free wifi option? :-X ;D ;D ;D
Count me in please.
Absolutely stunning location down by the river, and nearly makes it as a perfect site
However,
It does need to be pointed out that the management do allow their own (very hungry) dogs to run riot on the site (in fairness, its their home) but the downside is that many had their tents emptied of food, and those with small children also had the soiled nappy bags ransacked and disposed of around the site as a result. The management were less than friendly when consulted over this, and downright hostile to anyone who was not off the site at a certain time. Not a reason that should put anyone off, but please make sure you take extra precautions to protect your tent/food/possessions accordingly and do not leave your tent flap even slightly unzipped at any time.
Just phoned the owners for clarification, and yes, the dogs are still loose
We are awaiting dates for Hospital appointments at the moment, so unable to commit until the last minute (Non electric though if we do)
;)
I was informed that one of the dogs has passed away and the other is so old now that she can hardly even make it over to the tents. They have two 3 year old dogs now who are to be kept on lead at all times. No one made me aware of the issues with the dogs at the time so I can't comment to as to exactly what happened before.
It is very difficult to find a location that will take the group and able to provide what we ask for. I try each year to find alternative locations that will improve on what we have and to search for what is asked for but honestly - I don't think it is possible to tick all of the boxes. It is already March and venues are being booked up.
I have done what I can. Remember this is camping, we are to have a good time but be mindful of what is happening around you. If you do not want to come then that is fine. If you do, then brilliant.
I didn't know of any dog problems at the time either.
My only problem was getting my tent zips cable tied together.
And all Andy Robinsons tent pegs "fell out" of the ground.
Not sure how to stop either of those problems ??

Hazel, you have always managed to pick top locations every time - and the cruises and scenery are simply fantastic.
Lower Lode Inn ticks virtually all of the boxes, and we cannot wait to come along if we can (Liz is waiting a date for more surgery, so difficult to plan anything at the moment) besides, we are in a camper and dog problem isn`t going to affect us anyway.
Cable ties (and cutters for hire) are already packed :D
Hazel we will have an hook up and take the caravan again ;-)up
I thought the location was great! and the dogs only cleaned up food that was left laying around as dogs do :D :D Count me in ;-)up

How much notice do you need for booking??
Generally speaking, when Buggy camping trips are organised, we will always try and squeeze as many of us into a campsite as is physically possible so that anyone arriving at the last minute will always be accommodated. However, it it useful to let us know on here if you are planning to turn up as it helps with numbers and knowing how tight we have to squeeze tents in when they turn up.
And not forgetting the most important bit, Hazel has already booked and paid for the campsite out of her own pocket, so I am absolutely certain that she would appreciate any booking fees as fast as you can get them to her.
Her paypal address /prices is shown on the first post of this thread
Look forward to seeing you there ;)

What he said ^^ We try to accommodate as many as possible, since most of us are a friendly bunch we don't tend to mind playing tent tetris to much - it's just good to know if you're coming before we get there so we can plan in advance.
Thanks to all who have paid today! Much appreciated.

Hazel.
We have been trying to make our footprint at campsites a bit smaller at these types of meetings due to the amount of people that are now going. With that we have gone and bought two small tents for us rather than our massive inflatable one that we have used in the past which takes up too much ground space. So having 2 tents is that going to mean I need to book 2 pitches?
Testa
It's a difficult one. I guess I should tell you to pay for each pitch separately as Farmer Rob and Co do a similar thing and they've always paid per pitch. Everyones pitch size is different though, some people have massive tents other have tiny little ones. In coming pm...
Most site allow for a caravan, awning and space to park the car with room to move around on one pitch so a fair size area.
Payment sent.
Can't believe this is less than a month away now and I've not given the cruise in this area much of a thought yet. Is there anywhere "local" worth a visit and a photo-stop? I'm thinking a trip to Symonds Yat like the last time is a good way to head as well ;-)up thoughts?
Remember this time when visiting the forest of dean you buy a car park ticket you can use in all the carparks so multiple stops do not accrue extra cost.
There is the forest info center and a railway down there. The you can deafen Ross on wye again visiting the super market. Will be nother 70 miles one to symonds yat.
I would suggest the cruise/stops we did a few years ago would be just fine. Symonds Vat was a good lunch stop and for sure we need to drive through Ross on Wye again! I think mileage was just right then, not too on the long side as some have thought from more recent years.
As long as I don't crash it and its not broken, will bring the drone along for some footage, where appropriate to fly.

Peregrine Falcon ? :-\
Surely that should have been a Leighton Buzzard ! ;)
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Now the serious stuff for Hael I think the fitst stop was Caryerspiece picnic area on the A4138 then onto Coleford a right turn on B4432 up to Symonds rock then the little b road to old forge and goodrich castle and theB4234 into the back of Ross then A40 towards gloucester or the m50 to J2 back to the pub.
Parking ticket from forestry comission covers us for all the carparks so no multiple ticket buying.( well it did and assume it still does)

As said all are welcome and we are doing the forest of dean again.
It's a public event. And the more the merrier! This year we're going to do Snoopy's cruise (that we did a few years back) to Symonds Yat. I couldn't remember the route so I popped out yesterday and it came back to me.

Absolutely!!!!! Yes, there really must!!! I know I have been poor at putting credits within the movie itself recently so will for sure do so. In fact will ensure its a clickable link within the movie.
I did put the credits and link on last years video under the description at the time of posting it (Thought I had, but just went to check) But if you want anything else on there just PM me and I will update it too ;-)up :D :D

Well it looks like we have finally got our Moving date ;-)up which is great.
Not so great is that its looking like the Thursday 21st and therefore we need this coming weekend for packing / boxing up so sorry we now won't be coming.
Ironically we are moving to within 10 or so miles of Tewksbury.
Hope all goes well.
Chad

Can I have Chad's place please. Let me know who wants the money, i.e. direct to Chad as he's already paid, or to Hazel, or whatever.
I'll be on my own for this outing.

If anyone wants me to bring along any Sweatshirts, Fleeces or the new Beanie Hats, let me know ;)
I usually have some Top Trumps, Stickers and Zip Buddies with me anyway ;-)up
In the same way that I will have all the old and new NEWS stickers, which are sold purely to raise money for Alzheimer's Society.
We were also thinking about doing a collection before the quiz.
Just loading the tubs of Vickies rocky road into the caravan :D

Not sure. You'll have to ask the quiz master aka Miller. I can't remember what time we did it last time but we should do it earlier than before so we don't run out of sun.
What time do you think you'll get there?
Could do it tomorrow when everyone's there?
Hazel I'm now free to come along for your cruise tomorrow at 11am, and there can't be a better way to spend a Saturday...
Unfortunately can't make the cruise :'( have a good one!

Boo hiss!!!
I only visited for the Saturday cruise but stunning riverside location for the large assortment of buggys from N,E,W and S. About 23 buggys went on the cruise to the Forest of Dean taking in the sweeping views from Symonds Yat before heading to Ross for supplies at Morrisons.
Great humour and camaraderie - so a brilliant way to maximise enjoyment of your buggy. I am sure stories, insights and images will be posted soon enough.

Brilliant weekend - good to meet up with everyone
Thanks to Hazel and Miller for organising it ;-)up
really jealous, hope to make an event soon, just need a running buggy in place of the rolling shell and several boxes of bits I'm currently juggling :(
Thanks everyone for a top weekend. ;-)up ;-)up ;-)up ;-)up ;-)up ;-)up Good to meet some new faces.
Great place for base camp. Great entertainment with the Friday night quiz thanks to Hazel and Miller.
Great Saturday blast out and only a few drops of rain. And a few break downs but all made it back.
I've stripped down the offside carb this after and blasted carb cleaner through every hole and it no longer sounds like a chuffing train ;D ;D. My fault I think as I can't remember cleaning the air filters after the Swanage monsooooooooooooooooooooon a couple of years ago.
Roll on Swanage this year ;-)up
Cheers
Testa, Karen and the 2 monsters.
Yes, top weekend, a big thanks to Hazel & Miller and good to meet up again. arrived home bang on 12 o'clock with no hiccups on the way back and I'm now just about to put the cooker on and get some steak & chips on the go.
Hope you all got home safe and sound! Thanks everyone for getting involved!
Raised £70 for the Alzheimer's Society as well, which was a bonus.

Yay.....guess who got a speeding fine come through the post on their way home from news..... :'(
Bad luck. They didn't offer you a speed awareness course ?
Where did they get you Shaggy and what was your score?
Alcester road studley 42 in a 30
Shaggy
Same place that Paul (Merscury) got one coming or going to Ragley a few weeks ago
I've been past that camera quite a few times but luckily always following Mrs Snoopy...

I did say you would regret giving me the keys to your car at some point :-X
Think I'll set fire to the bloody thing
Of all the people ;D oww Shaggy :( I cannae believe it!!
That road is a bitch, changing speed limit every 5 minutes. I think I know the camera that got you, the speed sign before that one is so hidden amongst so many other signs, it's sneaky!
We should have convoyed home as I went that way...
Bad luck there with Mrs snoopy's favourite camera now hidden by a leylandi hedge the two before by Alcester and Coughton are 40mph zones. Go for the speed awareness course if offered.

And if you do, keep your mouth shut in case you get kicked off it - I nearly did and the consequences can be far worse.
They spout so much crap throughout the day, its difficult not to want to correct them or point out that we use disc brakes these days and that their statistics have not been updated from the 80`s, even though vehicle technology has come on leaps and bounds.
It didn`t go well for me from the start - They went round the room as everyone held their head in shame admitting that they had done wrong, doing blah blah speed where they shouldn`t. When it can to me, I pointed out that I still beleived I was in a 40mph zone, and bearing in mind it was 4 o'clock in the morning on an empty road, and I was clocked at 42 mph, I was actually pretty chuffed with myself to have been caught driving at what I thought (and still do) was the speed limit. Didn`t go down well at all.
:-X
In hindsight, I wish I had paid the fine and taken the points. >:(
I've applied for the course but it's really getting to me about it ......I think that area has been deliberately set up to catch out folk who don't know that road or area..... I'm tempted to take the sodding points.
Yes Dave 'Speed Awareness Courses' are a fair sized cottage industry and the set up dynamic inevitably leads to essentially a one way 'dialogue' where the basic message is bend over and take your punishment whilst repeatedly proclaiming your (former) erroneous ways...
No Shaggy grit your teeth and do the penance - it'll make a for a couple of good stories at future MBC nights and you'll be able to instruct the rest of us on our bad driving habits.

Maybe a bit of help to you shaggy just some info on obstructed signs.
Rich.
Commiserations Shaggy. Yes I got snapped on exactly the same 30 mph stretch going to Ragley. Had I lived closer I would have gone back to check none of the signs were obscured because I thought I was still in the 40 mph section. Mine was 37 in a 30. Did my speed awareness course a couple of weeks ago.
The signs are there and visible but the camera is now hidden the south bound one a 100m on is visible.

Sounds like a picture is needed that includes a newspaper front page to indicate the day it was taken
If the camera is obscured, that may be enough to challenge it under a technicality :-\
as far as i'm aware regardless of the amount of speed limit and camera in operation signs, the camera "must" be seen from something like 60 yards, hence why they painted them in highway yellow, on h&s grounds there is more chance of a camera causing an acident if it is obscured untill the last few meters, people have a tendancy to twitch upon spotting one hit the breaks thus causing an incident.
you could use the your word against mine and say "there was a car right up your backside and you didnt want to tap your brakes and cause an accident"
Slightly off topic but made me chuckle
Average speed cameras over Orwell bridge, limit is 60, watched a bloke slow down behind me for a camera set, passed me at at least 80, slammed his brakes on at the next camera then accelerated away again, obviously English isn't his first language
Misses got a pull on the M74 towards Glasgow by a patrol car sitting on a Munro , many miles away. Automatic fine and points .No courses in Scotland bleugh
