On side of Dynamo it says Bosch 14v 26A is this a 6 or 12 volt I have taken off engine
You need a higher voltage to charge a battery and make up for voltage drop in the loom so a 12v system can use upto 14.7 volts hence the 14V markings.
So you are saying that this Dynamo is ok for 12 volt system I'm replacing the brushes an when looked on net the ones that fit say they are for 6 volt Dynamo cheers
Every thing gets swapped about on the VW air-cooled engines!. Are you running a 12 volt battery? I think most of the six volt dynamos are smaller diameter and have a different pedestal for it to fit on. I will measure a 12 volt one for you later for you to compare. Someone might have left a six volt dynamo on there which would work a 12 volt system somewhat if it had a 12 volt regulator fitted ;D ;D

I have looked at my dynamos, the 12 volt ones are 4.1ins diameter. They are all 12v 30 amp though, seems strange yours says 25amp. the bushes in mine all look the same even though they have different connectors for the wires. I think vw changed all cars to 12 volt after 1967, so if you did a search by engine number or reg, it might have come up with bushes for a six volt dynamo system

The 67 6v dynamo was the same size as the 12v and one year olny.
High all I got some brushes an the one I got were for a 6/12 volt Dynamo they were advertised as 6 volt but when came under jk label it said 6/ 12 just waiting to try them out now I'm going to polarise my Dynamo first before fitting hope it charges just waiting for carb to come thanks lads.
