Hi everyone.
Ive got a SWB Mk3 Volksrod.
I was wondering if anyone knows if there is somebody out there making / selling Hardtops for the SWB Volksrod ?
Or does anyone know if there is a Hardtop currently made that fits the SWB Volksrod ?
Like the ones that Flatlands or East Coast Manx make for the Manx.
Thanks ;)
Suggest to send a message to Hazel on here and see if the Hard tops she makes will fit :-\
Volksrod did make a gullwing hardtop (possibly only one) in around 1971 but the kit was a unique shape, ie not Manx/GP derived so any usual top would need a fair bit of modifying.

I wasn`t expecting that to hinge at the front ???
Hardly a design classic imho :-\ Neither's that bumper though!
Im sure Ncap would pass that for pedestrian safety !!!
Nothing the matter with the bumper GBH has an ex snoopy heavy duty version of that fitted, guessing that John has never bent it Designed to fold a pedestrian at knee height.
Gullwing doors mmm bet they let water in onto the seats.

Positively encouraged mate . . . . .
. . . . Just so long as you polish it a bit more ;D
I tried messaging Hazel the other day, but no idea if they got or saw my message ?
Anyone have a mobile or business number for them ?
Thanks.
Andy.
She doesn't have a business number just her personal number. I'll send her a text and let her know your trying to contact her 😀
Email sent ;-)up
I'm unsure of the length of a Volksrod so I can't say if it will fit, generally they need some modification if it isn't going straight onto a Manx.
Thanks for the link to your Buggy Hardtop pics :)
I tried to have a measure up but its just not possible at the mo.
The roll bar is out, the bonnet is off, the screen is off, the dash is out, etc etc........
So I cant really get any accurate measurements right now ?
Dont suppose anyone on here has the measurements from the base of the screen to the rear of the back seat & the top of the screen to the roll bar for a SWB Mk3 Volksrod do they ?????
Plus.....although I really like the wide wraparound rear opening of the traditional Manx style hardtop, I'm kinda liking the 70's fluted rear screen louvre that the hardtops seem to be running in your pics.
Are they something you sell or are they a particular one for a particular car, like the ones Autoplas used to sell ?
I'm gona try to dig out my screen from my other garage in the next few days.
I'll measure it & post up some pics of the surround to see if it can by used with one of your hardtops.
Thanks,Andy.
The louvres are very difficult to come by, not sure which ones people are using.
I'm not sure if Muzzy on here started to make them though?
Hazel,is there a chance i could have a look at these hardtops or is it all hush hush. I posted before about some yankee ones like on the snorkel buggy but nobody said about any availible here. My mind is doing overtime in the subconscious about a wooden ones or fibreglass, both pickling it. ???
Unfortunately we don't have one currently made up to look at.
Maybe you could visit one of the guys who has a hardtop?

As for the "yankee ones" I have no idea about those.
Blimey that took some finding, makes you wonder how you found it in the first place. Berrien buggy is the yankee roof.
Berrien sold up a couple of years ago to a company called ACME Trailers iirc. They took over all of the buggy stuff and have even developed some products.
The Louvres we all used to fit in the Eighties came from a company called Autoplas.
I know a lot of the Current Yanks are still using Louvres, so this may help as a head start to track down who or where they can be obtained
