For those of you located down here in the South West, without a club, then fret no more - as I have an idea to kick start it up again.
After a chat with my good friend BillyBob, (the man behind the original South West Buggy Club and the website Buggista), he has graciously allowed me to use the names in an attempt to try and revive something.
So what do you reckon then ? Are there any members out there willing to take up the challenge of setting up and running our own South West Buggy Club once more? Is the enthusiasm still here? Let me know if you would like to be a part of an exciting new venture down here in the South West, and I can then register you on our new Club Area.
Membership criteria (just whilst we get it started):
You must reside in the South West and have a passion for Buggies - ownership not essential
If you want to join us, simply add your name below, and I`ll add you to the new club area

Good news how do I join? Is the web site still around? ???
Give me a minute, and I`ll upgrade your profile to include the new SWBC Zone ;-)up
The King is Dead........Long Live The King........... :D
Be rude not to Dave,
I think I've got the king's old chariot sat at the back of my garage ;-)up
Thanks for the support guys - You now have access to a new Area in the Club Zone
Room for one more? ;D
As a member of the original SWBC it would be rude if I didn't sign up. I'm closer to having a Buggy now than I was then! ;D
Done ;)
Make sure you now add your names to the member list in the SWBC Club area

It would be nice if we could get a regular monthly meet down this way though - trouble is we are spread out a lot more than most :(
How many of us does that actually make then? It would be good to finally meet some buggers...

Maybe we could have it somewhere different every month?? Hopefully the first meet could be in my garage as mine ain't running yet! ;D
Most of the original SWBC members are not actually on the net, making a head count and arranging anything somewhat difficult, and I think its one of the reasons the club kinda fizzled out before. Also, unlike the other clubs, where most members are within a 50 mile radius with good roads, we cover many counties with crap roads and that big snowbound lump called Dartmoor in the middle.
So, where are we all then?
We seem to be spread out mainly along the coast, with the largest clusters around North Cornwall or East Devon. Geographically, Okehampton is probably centralised, bearing in mind we spread from Bristol to Lands End, but anyone down here will know that for the colder months, the North side of the Moors is not going to make for an easy to get to regular meet. South of Dartmoor along the centralised line puts me, in Torbay not far from the middle, but as there are more members around Exeter than Plymouth, that would shift a centralised spot along a bit to, say, Newton Abbott.
Anyone up for starting a regular venue then? Needs to be a regular spot so you get known and people come looking for you.
So, looking for a good pub with Parking and access, would give us something like the Penn Inn, which is smack in the middle of the new Bypass roads, so should make for an easy place for most to find.
Anyone else got any thoughts?
I would be up for travelling to there for a meet! I haven't got a working buggy yet so I would have to bring the Audi but it would be nice to meet some other buggers! 8)
Well I think if you are prepared to travel that distance for a meet, then I think it only right I join you at the bar for a bevvie of some description.
Let me have a quick word with the Penn Inn first, just to see what nights they have free, as don`t really want to be gatecrashing other clubs meeting there.
;-)up
I thought a SWBC meet would have to be at a surf club?
True . . .
But nothing to say a surf club cannot be inland,
besides, Penn Inn Pub is not far from the estuary I launch the boat from when sea fishing . . . . So technically, could be accepted ;-)up
Yes Hazel we mustn't stereotype our friends at the SWBC as whilst I haven't met Dave DND its unlikely he fits all of the stereotype traits of a surfer - bleached blonde curly hair, suntaned six pack showing through open tropical shirt, a few beads around his wrist, sandles and a regular use of 'hey man', 'cool' and 'dude'!

Indeed Hugh, you are correct - I do not fit all of those stereotypes.
Need to find some beads for my wrist :D
Well I knew you had a SOH as that is obligatory for buggy ownership.
SOH is indeed important for Buggy Ownership,
But hanging out catching a few rays is essential for SWBC membership ;-)up

Looks like 2 red buggies escorting their shy green friend to the seaside with a beetle on looker!
The green one invited the others to come and play on the sand a bit of a bad influence on one of the red ones as it had to have a bath be for it was allowed back in to garage. ;D ;D ;D
Well children often mis behave if unattended so I blame the owners - looks like one of them has stripped off and is trying to sleep showing far too much leg !
If you added a surf board that would please Hazel or perhaps a couple of owners were out catching a wave ?

Wasn`t just the owners - the cars just couldn`t resist either :D

OK then SWBC guys -
How does the first Tuesday of the month sound for a regular meet in Newton Abbott ? ???
Sounds good to me Dave, I will be away in the first week of September but I'm good for any other months!
Only trouble is that its gone a bit quiet all of a sudden?? :-\
Is anyone else up for this????
Unfortunately evening meets are out for me but I do like the idea of a SW get together personally I would prefer getting together maybe three times a year at a couple shows like Devon dub fest and Dubs at the beach in Paignton and a pub meet sometime during the summer only a suggestion as I will try to go along with what everyone else wants. I think that less meets will give it a better chance of survival just a thought ;-)up
I will definitely try to make it as long as I'm not at the other end of the country, however if it's persisting it down I may have to utilise alternative transport... I assume I wouldn't get lynched for turning up to a SWBC meeting in something other than a buggy?
As it stands:
September looks possible
October's OK
November might be tricky
December's the big holiday
No worries, I just may be in a daily as well given this weekends epic failure !! :'(
Dave sorry for putting my bit in here with you guy's,but,
If you made it the third Tues or whichever day in the third week (unless there are other local meets happening) you may entice some distant visitors along as they aren't doing any other club nights that may be occurring during the first week of the month ;).
Just a thought.

Good call, I hadn`t really considered that one.
Difficult enough trying to find a suitable time for us lot without thinking ahead to other clubs - but it is a good point made ;-)up
What do others think?
???
I am up for meeting any time really if I'm not playing bowls ;-)up

Excellent - won`t be drinking on my own then (http://www.dndservices.co.uk/smiley/hammered.gif)
How does third Tuesday of the month sound then?
I guess thats this month buggered, given the date - but starting from October 20th
Who`s in then ?
The third Tuesday in October is good with me ;-)up
I'd love to say yes but I'll be in Yorkshire all day and 20th is our wedding anniversary so I'll have to take a raincheck this time round
Sounds good to me but I won't be in buggy, getting a brand new T5 tomorrow so look out for a big cloud of black smoke coming down the road!! ;D
Excellent news then - sounds like we have the makings of a new club night
Tuesday October 20th it is then ;-)up
Is everyone still on for this next week?
I will certainly be there for sure ;-)up
Its all looking good for me as well :) Where are we meeting?
Toby Carvery, Penn Inn, Torquay Road, Newton Abbot, TQ12 4AQ
As you approach Newton Abbott on the A380, there are roadworks building a new flyover over the top of the Penn Inn roundabout
Turn right, under the flyover heading for Newton Abbott, stay in the right hand land, and after a few hundred yards you will see the pub and entrance on your right hand side.
Big car park out the back, and from memory (haven`t been there in a while) there was a seperate bar at the front door of the pub, whilst the rear is restaurant - I`ll be at the bar from around 7:30~7:45 ish and if all goes tits up, I`ll be in the car park out back in a Grey Landrover Freelander
My mobile is 07801131144 and I`ll be wearing a blue bandana if it helps to spot me in the crowd
Really good to meet some new faces tonight - thanks for turning up guys ;-)up
We are now officially a club again :D
Third Tuesday of the month makes the next one the 15th December
Same time - same place 8)
Thanks for organising it, it was good to meet you guys!
See you next month! ;-)up
Nice to finally meet you guys :)
Hopefully I will be free next month ;-)up
