I'm half thinking about this, although I live in Nottingham my brother in law lives in Poxwell (just down the road from Swanage) so the carnival coupled with a visit to relations could be a possibility.

I've received this from the Carnival committee rep:

Hi  Terry,

I hope this finds you fit and well ?

I'm writing to confirm that hopefully your group will be up for coming to Swanage Carnival again this year ? We always appreciate your support and the crowds really enjoy seeing the group , and are always a great visual treat for the many spectators that always turn out to watch you participate in what is a great event for the town

If you can let me know if you want to come that would be great ,

Kind Regards

Darren

I've been a bit cheeky and said yes on your behalf!

So is anyone up for it?
More details to follow on camping details etc but it will be the usual Fri lunch to Mon lunch for anyone that can bunk off work for the extra days but even if you can only make it for a day you are welcome.

For the cruise on Sat I'm thinking of a bit of a change, I'd still like us to do the chain ferry over to Poole but then I'm thinking of a split visit to 2 local attractions which are the Tank Museum and Monkey world.

You would not have time to do both but they are very close to each other so we could drop off those that want to see our simian brethren in Monkey World (don't forget some form of ID to get back out) then round the corner for those into heavy metal at the Tank Museum.

Here's the links:

http://www.monkeyworld.org/

http://www.tankmuseum.org/home

Any comments either pro or con are welcome so I can gauge what you would like to do.

The Theme for this year is Superheroes so what do you think on bringing the Knights out of retirement?

Looks like we could have a fair amount of Swanage virgins this year, we may need a bigger boat!

It would be great if we could top 50 Buggies 1 year. I think next year may be the 10th anniversary so that may be something to aim for, Chad will know.

As some of you may know I've been quiet for abit busy on other things then got wiped out by an elderly driver in my other pride an joy which was destroyed and me put in hospital.
So was going to tear my buggy down and make her an auto to help my left leg,but while I still can im getting her out, new engine purchased bit of detailing and parts put her in new beam and I'll be back out and seeing as I've never managed to do swanage I'm making an effort this year and I'm keeping buggy so Georgina can drive next year then decide what I do with it.
Watch out its going to be much faster than before and maybe flames again on over run lol

You need to get there (football club) by about 1230 Mel otherwise traffic is a mare.

As there is just over a month to go can we have a sticky on this Dave then we can sort out a new list?

Last year arrived & took part in the carnival which was brilliant.
This year hope to make it down for Saturday morning to join the cruise & camp.
Do we check in with the football club first - whats the normal protocol?
Is the cruise starting at 11am?

Excellent,

Flags is the one to confirm but generally yes, head to the club, get your tent set up etc if you want we then congregate in the car park by the club for setting off. I think the time is usually 11am or there abouts.  ;-)up

Club first if you want to pitch before the cruise (we leave about 11) but we have met up with folk's whist out before.
Don't forget it's Superhero's this year.
I've booked Dave the barman to open the bar for us on Saturday evening and he promises no Drum and Base party this year!
The club would like to know if we want breakfast on Sunday before the procession but to make it viable we need approximately 40.

So the new list is for

Flags, just thinking of the new folks, might be worth mentioning the cost of the camping and the breakfast.

We know its extremely good value, ridiculously low and proceeds are all for charity so there's no issues but be good to let them know.

Sorry for being a bit quiet but looks like we won't be able to make it this year but could have a last minute change.

It gave Liz and me a real boost last year so thanks to all and catch you all again soon.  ;-)up ;-)up ;-)up

Excellent,

Flags is the one to confirm but generally yes, head to the club, get your tent set up etc if you want we then congregate in the car park by the club for setting off. I think the time is usually 11am or there abouts.  ;-)up

When are you planning to travel down Andy

Flags: Snowy and I will be bring the T5 and the buggy (no trailer tent this year) T5 has an awning / tent on the side.

My guess is the same plans as last year? I think Gordon, Mark and myself will head down in convoy so could meet you at Fleet Services again, mid morning, Friday?

Hunter (and anyone else on route) joining us?

Details......

Arrive at Swanage Football club any time after 1230 on Fri, the cost is £6 per adult per night for Fri and Sat, kids are £2.50 with Sun free anyone that wants to stay over.

The bar will be open on Sat night and as usual we will have the use of the BBQ's if wanted.

The Theme is Superhero's but fancy dress is NOT compulsory, the parade is at 3pm on Sun we form up just before 2 so please try to stay for this if you can. Anyone that needs to can depart before the crowds straight after.

The cruise on Sat is in your hands, I've had little feedback on if you would like to do the Tank Museum and Monkey world so we could just do the chain ferry, beach run for fish and chips (Weymouth) then back through the Purbecks route?

If you are bringing a Caravan or Motorhome please drop me a line, trailer tents & camper vans not included.

Weather will be Swanagetastic so see you all there.

Cheers flags

To be honest, personally I can take or leave either monkey or tank world, so speaking for myself am happy to just do the Weymouth beach or even head up to last years locations for a picnic.

What's everyone else thinking?

As much as I like Tank World, Lisa would kill me if I went there without her, so I vote for the extra few miles down to Weymouth and a bag of chips.

We already have Monkey World covered back at the football ground with the camping and apes   ;D

Trevor,
Camping at Swanage is compact and very basic, and we tend to put all the tents as close as we can together "refugee stylee" but don`t worry, Flags will make sure that any tents have space, and cars will be herded into the corner to make space. Because I`m taking my trailer tent, I`m hoping to be there for early afternoon on the friday - and its just under a 3 hour trip from here. If you can make the friday, and can be around Devon area mid morning, then more than happy to cruise up with you  - from here to Swanage is a really nice drive.

Spoke to the Football club today, they are happy with around 25 for breakfast which I think we should do. Here's some details:

The countdown begins.
Just a quick up date and some details for those that are incoming.
The boring bits first:
Please park all daily drivers in the football club car park once you have unloaded as space is always tight (as Peters daily is a buggy he is the only exception).
Everything we dump in the car park must be moved to the campsite before we leave for the cruise, there is no game on Sat this year but the Army are using the club house as a changing area and coach park.
Tents are the top of the food chain and as such get priority on the flat grassed areas, campervans can always park on the car park but tents can't.
Please keep your awnings and gazebos to a minimum and don't be offended if you are asked to move something to squeeze somebody in, we have a couple of buggies not arriving until Sat.
All buggies are to be parked on the sloped area as it's no use for camping and that way they will not get blocked in.
Please fill up with fuel either on the way in or early on Saturday as stopping on the first part of the cruise for fuel is very difficult.
The bar is open on Saturday night and for breakfast on Sunday but please don't all go to breakfast in 1 lump as the kitchen is quite small and the volunteers who cook and serve it will have hangovers.
That's all the crap out of the way so.......
Here's a bit of other stuff:
It never rains at Swanage but if it does for Sat we have a couple of options, either head into in Poole for shopping and to see the town or head out to the Tank museum or monkey world?
Someone asked what the 'Facilities' are like?  I spent 29 years living off tanks so I've seen worse but they may be a shock if you're a bit posh.
I will post the cruise route next week so please take the time to have a look, it is IMPOSIBLE to keep 20 plus buggies together in Poole and would be dangerous to try so there will be collection points along the way.
Superhero kit for the procession is not compulsory; it's more about the fun than the fancy dress but if you have it all the better. The main crux of the weekend is the procession so please, please try to stay long enough to do it, I realise that some have a little further to travel than me and if you need to you can head straight out of town after we have finished.
See you all at the weekend, bring a hat, beer and sun cream.

Hi Guy,
RATITUDE and family have rebooked again this year but have secured comfy beds at a B&B down by the seafront (early signs of getting old) which apparently has some parking but as in previous years buggy will be coming down on a trailer. So we will make every effort to arrive as early as possible so it can go in the laol grass area.
Also Bob who is a good friend is also coming this year and staying at the B&B. Some of you who were at the Kitcar event at Stoneleigh met him. He was the one with bright red GP superbuggy that ended up with a slightly reworked front end after the Saturday night cruise.
So look forward to seeing you all on the 24th

Mark :)

Patrick and Toon are both here already, not long now.

The cruise for Sat is normal route out to the chain ferry from the football club
Pitwines car park in Poole for an hour stop to grab a packed lunch and BBQ stuff, for those meeting on route: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Supermarket+Car+Park/@50.7164599,-1.9796653,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xf6df83b35fb91e29

Out of Poole on the A350/A35 to the Bakers Arms roundabout: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/The+Bakers+Arms/@50.7334866,-2.0655282,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x21da12558b3fcfc9

Left on the A351 to Wareham

Right onto the A352 towards Wool

Left after 1.5KM onto the B3070 to Lulworth

Lulworth Cove for A Picnic and swim for a couple of hours (pay car park £3 for 2 hours)

Route back will be via the viewing point where the wedding party were then over the Purbecks to Corfe Castle, turn right and back into Swanage.

The route involves busy town, fast A roads , a blast on a dual carriage way and tight country roads.  Please make sure you have filled up before we leave but there is a fuel stop on route if needed.

As normal I have to meet with the committee to take over the site at lunch on Fri so please do not enter the site until we get the say so.

See you all there

Jazzy,

Don`t really want to jump in before Flags gives an official answer, but I know that they generally like to keep the tarmac area clear. However, as you know, there are a few sloping areas under the trees where it is not possible to erect tents, and historically, these have been used by the guys that do bring trailers down. You already know Flags is going to say yes to this, as he is always very accomodating when it comes to this sort of thing, and a few extra coffers in the kitty are what the whole weekend is about, and I doubt would ever be refused.

Stop Press

Due to the weather forecast on Friday (it will be fine, trust me.)  I have secured access to the site for tonight for anyone that can travel today rather than on Friday.
I don't have time to go into the finer points now but if you get here just put up your tent and enjoy.

More to follow.

And yes to anything else like can I come or trailers.

x

Sally and I will be leaving in the morning mainly because we both have roof's and Georgie has decided
she will be setting off on Saturday morning as she doesn't.

Hopefully the wet weather won't set in too much, I will be warm and dry hopefully and will bring the heated
jackets along too just in case someone would like to see what they are all about...

Drive safely in it all  ;-)up

Seems my oil pressure and I are double booked this weekend, and as he is firmly on vacation, I will now be there in my daily   :'(

If anyone has a spare seat for the cruise and the parade, it would be very much appreciated, as following in a Land Rover isn`t the same  ???

Hi Hazel,

I'm having exactly the same problems about work so if you do end up going down today then I douby I'll see you.

Flags and all - hoping I may still be able to get down and hook up for the cruise later on and parade. Keep everything crossed!

I didn't manage to get that many photos, mainly due to the weather, the sun came out
about 20 minutes before the Carnival was due to kick off and that made everyone's day  ;-)up
