After investigating a squeek coming from the rear it appears to be coming from the torsion bar. Ive taken the cover plates off the end and taken off the outer rubber bush both sides and it still squeeks. The inner bushes look to be urethane, could it be that these need lubricating and is it possible to prise the end plates off slightly to lubricate them or does the whole lot need taking apart? or shall i just ignore it and turn the stereo up lol, ive been reading up on the net and it seems to be a fairly common problem?
If it were me I'd strip it and replace the inner bushes with rubber, no more squeaks, job done. Just make sure you mark the torsion splines with a blob of Tippex so you get back in the same place and be careful not to disturb the inner splines.
Look at the top of this page for Peter's sticky on how to do it, just put it back how it was without raising though.

Yes Jon is right,
Don't ever grease rubber as it causes it to swell and do strange things.
The ONLY way to lube rubber bushes is to flood them with talcum powder upon assembly.
Don't worry about the mess, as it all washes off afterwards :)
As David advises, I agree, get rid of the urethane and replace both inner and outer
with a new set of originals.... ;-)up
Yikes ok thanks for the advice, looks a bit of a tricky job so might sit and stare at it for a while before i decide whether or not to tackle it myself :-\

not a hard job it only appears to be until you do it. as a safety precaution rather than marking the plate and splines when you have the spring plate hanging down free make a cardboard template using the top of the spring plate as the bottom straight edge and the top of the shocker mount casting as the top.
then if you loose your spline position tape the cardboard on and keep removing, turning and refitting until it the top of the plate realigns with the template.
undoing the hand brake cables from the lever and pulling them out of the rear pan means you do not need to remove the brake drums or calipers and avoid cable damage.
You should lubricate them with silicone, decent urethane kits actually come with a little tube of the stuff.
You can get it from a plumbers merchant or friendly plumber - they use it for the joints on soil pipes
Think it may now be available in spray cans, but the stuff that looks like Vaseline lasts a lot longer.
Won't damage the rubber bushes either.

Thanks yeah someone else suggested i did this with silicone cockpit spray... i just tried it, spraying behind the plates without even undoing anything, gave the car a few bounces and seems to be doing the trick!! Will see how long it lasts before it starts making noises again. ;-)up
